Six bids for waste incineration expansion project

The tender for design and construction of the third phase of the expansion project of the Macau Waste Incineration Center was opened on Friday. The Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) received a total of six bidders. After the review carried out by the bid committee, five tenders were accepted. The proposed price of the bids ranged from MOP1.8 billion to MOP3.8 billion. The maximum construction period was 1,100 working days. According to DSPA, the expansion project is to be located in Pac On, Taipa. The winning bid must build the third phase of a waste incineration plant and add two new incinerators capable of handling 650 metric tons of waste per day, a hazardous waste treatment station, and an administrative building and substation.

Macau and Portugal jointly recognize degrees

Associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees obtained in Macau are now automatically recognized by Portugal. The automatic recognition was recently announced by Lisbon. Students with higher education degrees and diplomas obtained in Macau can now apply to Portuguese local authorities, such as Portuguese public higher education institutions or higher education departments, and share the same rights as local Portuguese students. In turn, Macau’s Higher Education Bureau stated that the SAR government is following up on draft administrative regulations for automatic recognition of Portuguese higher education degrees and diplomas in Macau, and that the regulations are expected to take effect from this year.
