Analysis of Character Convergence of Jiangnan Ancient Towns Lei Yunyao , Zhang Qiongfang
International Forum on Management, Education and Information Technology Application (IFMEITA 2016) Analysis of Character Convergence of Jiangnan Ancient Towns Lei Yunyao1, a, Zhang Qiongfang 1,b 1 Wuchang Shouyi University, Wuhan 430064 China [email protected], b [email protected] Key Words:Jiangnan Ancient Towns; Character convergence; Analysis Abstract:This article illustrates the representation of character convergence of Jiangnan Ancient Towns. It analyzes the formation mechanism of character convergence to build the whole image of these ancient towns with Zhouzhuang as a prototype. Based on Tourism Geography Theory and Regional Linkage Theory, it puts forward the fact that the character convergence can be beneficial to building a whole tourism image and to enhancing people’s awareness of ancient heritage. But some problems caused by the convergence will also be presented, such as the identical tourism development model, the backward infrastructure and the destruction of original ecology. Introduction With Taihu Lake as the center, the region of Jiangnan, the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is scattered all over by many historic ancient towns. These towns have a long history and deep cultural deposit. They are densely occupied and economically developed. They form a national transport network combined with inland waterway. These towns have witnessed a long-term economic prosperity in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and are now generally called “Jiangnan Ancient Towns”. Since 1980s, under the wave of reform, opening up and modernization construction, experience-based tourism and leisure tourism of these towns have achieved great development. Under the influence of “China's First Water Town” Zhouzhuang, some other similar towns like Tongli, Luzhi, Xitang, Nanxun, Wuzhen all choose to follow suit. -

1 RIVERBED EVOLUTION of UPPER PART of YANGTZE ESTUARY and ITS RESPONSE to the HYDRODYNAMIC CHANGES at UPSTREAM Yongping Chen1
RIVERBED EVOLUTION OF UPPER PART OF YANGTZE ESTUARY AND ITS RESPONSE TO THE HYDRODYNAMIC CHANGES AT UPSTREAM Yongping Chen1, Ninglin Jiang 2 and Changkuan Zhang3 The riverbed evolution of upper part of Yangtze estuary, Chengtong reach, is analyzed by comparison of 6 sets of bathymetry data during 1977~2011. The significant changes of water depth profiles along 6 representative cross- sections indicate this reach is still in the process of development. In order to get a better understanding of the effect of river discharge at upstream on the riverbed evolution of Chengtong reach, a series of numerical experiments are implemented by specifying different river discharge conditions at the upper boundary. The corresponding discharge ratios of main and secondary channels at 3 main sub-reaches are compared. The results show that with the increase of river discharge, the discharge ratio in the main channels of Fujiangsha sub-reach and Rugaosha sub-reach increases, but it changes to decrease when the upstream river discharge becomes very large; however, the discharge ratio in the main channel of Tongzhousha sub-reach always decreases with the increase of river discharge at upstream. The discharge ratio of secondary channel has an adverse tendency. Keywords: Yangtze estuary; Chengtong reach; riverbed evolution; numerical modeling; upstream discharge INTRODUCTION Yangtze River is the longest river in China and the third longest river in the world. The estuary of Yangtze River starts from Ebizui of Jiangsu Province and reaches the East China Sea by the city of Shanghai. In recent years, the riverbed of Yangtze estuary has exhibited significant changes under the effects of natural evolution and anthropogenic works (Yang et al, 2006; Liu et al, 2007). -

Introducing Sustainability Into China's Printing and Dyeing Industry
IMPACT SHEET • SWITCH-ASIA PROJECT SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION IN THE PRINTING AND DYEING SECTOR IN CHINA Introducing sustainability into China’s printing and dyeing industry The project introduced sustainable production measures into 350 SMEs in Zhejiang province to reduce their environmental impacts This publication has been produced with the assistance of the European Union. The contents of this publication are the sole responsibility of GFA Consulting Group GmbH and can in no way be taken to reflect the views of the European Union. IMPACT SHEET | SWITCH-Asia project Sustainable production in the printing and dyeing sector in China The Challenge Activities / Strategy China is the largest textile producing and consuming nation Encouraging Technology Upgrade among SMEs in the world. In 2010, national textile production was valued The project provided training to 350 SMEs and at EUR 570 billion and accounted for 6.56% of national indus- identified model SMEs. It worked with the local trial production. The development of the textile industry is government to encourage many P&D companies in Keqiao vital to China’s economic development. Evacuation Priority Method in Tsunami Hazard Based on DMSP/OLS Population Mapping in the Pearl River Estuary, China

The priority of population evacuation on coastal areas could be useful to reduce the death toll in case of tsunami hazard. In this study, the population density remote sensing mapping approach was developed using population records in 2013 and Defense Meteorological Satellite Program’s Operational Linescan System (DMSP/OLS) night-time light (NTL) image of the same year for defining the coastal densest resident areas in Pearl River Estuary (PRE), China. Two pixel-based saturation correction methods were evaluated for application of population density mapping to enhance DMSP/OLS NTL image. The Vegetation Adjusted NTL Urban Index (VANUI) correction method (R2 (original/corrected): 0.504, Std. error: 0.0069) was found to be the better-fit correction method of NTL image saturation for the study area compared to Human Settlement Index (HSI) correction method (R2 (original/corrected): 0.219, Std.
