No.: VA15-02874 Re: Ajax Project - Thompson River Hydrologic and Hydraulic Impacts The purpose of this memorandum is present the results of assessment of potential changes in hydrology and hydraulics on the Thompson River downstream from the outlet of Kamloops Lake due to the proposed Ajax Project. Flow reductions, particularly during low flow periods, have the potential to impact fish habitat. The Project will affect Thompson River flows due to a water withdrawal of 1505 m3/hr (0.42 m3/s) from Kamloops Lake and flow reductions in Peterson Creek due to mine activities. This memorandum is a revision of the work completed by Knight Piésold Ltd. (KP) on March 18, 2013 (KP cont. no. VA13-00493), which assessed the effects of a Kamloops lake water withdrawal of 2000 m3/hr (0.56 m3/s). Hydrology The Project is located in the Thompson River Valley on the south side of Kamloops Lake. The hydrology of the Thompson River was assessed based on Water Survey of Canada (WSC) data available for the Thompson River. The Project location and the locations of relevant WSC gauging stations are shown on Figure 1. Details of these WSC stations are summarized in Table 1. The WSC operated a gauge on the Thompson River near Savona (08LF033), near the outlet of Kamloops Lake, between 1926 and 1966. -

Biogeochemical Contributions to the Water Quality of the Skeena River by Solomon Henson INTRODUCTION The Skeena River watershed is about 54,000km2 and extends from central British Columbia to the western coast (figure 1). The river is known for producing tremendous salmon fisheries. Slaymaker (1972) reported that the chemical quality of the Skeena River was high which provides an excellent environment for salmon populations to flourish despite heavy fishing pressures. The Skeena is a diverse watershed that receives water from glacial ablation, snow melt, and precipitation as rain. These hydrologic inputs transport ion species and sediment from the landscape to the river and determine what the overall water quality of the Skeena will be. Figure 1. Henson June 14, 2004 There are three distinct types of tributaries on the Skeena that result from these hydrologic inputs. Those of glacial origin, those that flow clear and are derived from spring water, and those that are tea colored due to high levels of dissolved organic carbon and other organic material. Although the tributaries of the Skeena River have not been extensively studied, this paper will attempt to lay out the possible contributions of these waters to the overall water quality of the main stem. Furthermore, possible mechanisms for these contributions will be considered that include the effects of weathering, temperature, vegetation and soil type on water quality. In 1977 Gibbs laid out three major mechanisms controlling worldwide water chemistry. Atmospheric precipitation dominates in tropical regions where nutrient and organic leaching are high, such that precipitation contains higher solute concentrations than the soil. -

This Order applies to all Crown land established or continued as a park, conservancy, recreation area, or ecological reserve under the Park Act, the Protected Areas of British Columbia Act or protected areas established under provisions of the Environment and Land Use Act. B. This Order is made in the public interest in response to the COVID-19 pandemic for the purposes of the protection of human health and safety. C. This Order is in regard to all public access, facilities or uses that exist in any of the lands mentioned in Section A above, and includes but is not limited to: campgrounds, day-use areas, trails, playgrounds, shelters, visitor centers, cabins, chalets, lodges, resort areas, group campsites, and all other facilities or lands owned or operated by or on behalf of BC Parks.
