The words were crafted by a sort of magician, Albertan poet Doris Indigo lights up the heavens Daley, celebrated for her word wizardry. The song comes from her Indigo night shrouds the trees original poem, “Rainbows.” She tells about the poem’s inspiration, “I Indigo flaps on the clothesline in spring wrote this piece one summer when I came back from a seven-day pack When Levi’s blow stiff in the breeze trip in the bush. I had been offered a tempting job in Winnipeg but my Violet is crocus and lupines week in the Rockies only intensified my love affair with Alberta. Yet I Violet tastes saskatoon sweet wasn’t living ‘out West’—I was living in Calgary and trying to figure out Violet is royalty riding the range how to make my life more rural and less urban. I wanted to write a love With a kingdom of grass at your feet poem to the places and lifestyle I loved the most, knowing that how I felt about the West would never change, no matter where I lived or what job Blue is the mist in the valley I held. ” Blue is a sapphire dome Blue is the worry and lonesome you feel Daley says she often writes a poem “the way a builder constructs a When riders are late getting home house.” In this poem, her “scaffolding” was the colors in a rainbow, “the 2x4’s, and the descriptive verses became the walls and roof.” She tells Green is the sweet smell of April that she had a forthcoming writers’ workshop in mind as she wrote, “I Green is the frost in the ground tried a little extra hard on the figures of speech in this poem… I Green is the jingle and jig in your step When beef brings a dollar a pound absolutely love to be surprised/shocked/startled by a good figure of speech in cowboy poems by other writers and I didn’t want to let the Out where the wind sweeps the prairie team down. If there’s one verse in the whole poem I’m proud of, it’s: Out where the wild eagles fly

Violet is crocus and lupines. Violet tastes saskatoon sweet. When God sends a rain to scrub the world clean A rainbow gets hung in the sky Violet is royally riding the range with a kingdom of grass at your feet.

The alliteration and the symbolism (associating the color purple with But look and you might see another royalty/the kingdom of grass) was the result of several rewrites and And you'll find yourself doubly blessed much, much serendipity during the writing process.” It's a rainbow you see with your heartstrings Painted in the shades of the west. Rick Huff’s Best of the West Reviews Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium Review - Nevada Slim & Cimarron Sue: "Home Ranch Tales" by Graham Lees

Take a splash of Dude Ranch dash and a generous Over the past eight years I’ve been traveling to the scoop of Yippie-I-Yo and you come up with Nevada USA from England to visit the various festivals that Slim and Cimarron Sue! "Nevada" and "Cimarron" take place around the mid-west. Some of the are from Washington State! Those cowboys do drift, festivals I’ve taken in over the years have included don't they??! Cheyenne Frontier Days, and the wonderful western swing festivals that take place in Wichita Falls and A.k.a. Bruce and Susan Matley, the pair are Snyder each June. I’ve made many friends over seasoned state fair performers across a good chunk these years and seen some of the best western of the western U.S. Their latest CD is "Home Ranch artists and swing bands in the country. In 2004 I was invited to the Tales" featuring old favorites ("Tumbling Tumbleweeds," "Cool Water," Academy Of Western Artists Convention at and in 2007 the "When It's Nighttime In Nevada"); old old favorites ("Little Joe The Western Music Association was kind enough to extend an invitation to Wrangler," "Billy The Kid," "Goodbye, Old Paint") and old old old attend their weekend event that takes place in Albuquerque during favorites ("Danny Boy," "Green Grow The Lilacs," "Westward Bound November. The Symposium also features demonstrations of many different types of horse related activities including: horsemanship with Craig Cameron, mounted cowboy shooting by the Chisum Trail Shooters, roping, and blacksmithing, along with booths brimming with western arts and crafts. The Symposium also has plenty of things for kids to do including competitions of dummy roping, stick horse barrel racing, goat roping and a goat/sheep scramble. This is where all things “cowboy” are celebrated.

Thursday night kicked off the entertainment with a concert opened by the world famous Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys. The name is now owned by Texas Playboy vocalist Leon Rausch and guitarist Tommy Allsup. You’ll also find musicians of the caliber of Curley Hollingsworth, Bobby Koefer and Jimmy Young featured in the band. Devon Dawson of The Texas Trailhands also helped out on backing vocals and rhythm guitar. Great music from the band including big band numbers mixed in with the traditional western swing that they are greatly loved for.

The Quebe Sisters Band followed. Three sisters, Grace, Sophia and Hulda, ranging from mid-teens to early twenties who were recently named Group of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists and recipient of the Crescendo Award by the Western Music Association. I first met the Quebe Sisters at Red Steagall’s Cowboy Gathering in 2003, where they drew a great crowd listening to their award winning triple fiddle playing in Forth Worth Stockyards. It was not long after that Ricky Skaggs saw the girls playing and soon had them appearing on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Another set of wonderful music, exquisitely backed up by their mentor Joey McKenzie on rhythm guitar and Drew Phelps on stand-up bass.

Closing the night was the band many of the audience had come to see. The international acclaimed Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel. Hey folks, Western music disc jockey's love the Roundup for the mega AATW were in England during July, playing at our own Notts’ Americana Festival, in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
