During this past year: • The Community Foundation proudly awarded $1.5 million to the community—a slight increase from last year. Our fund advisors awarded 383 grants and 157 scholarships. • The average grant size increased to $3,300. • 4,062 charitable donors contributed $7.7 million to our family of funds. u This is a 33% increase in the number of donors compared to last year. u This is a 104% increase in donations compared to last year. • Our donors created 26 new funds this year, a 65% increase over last year. This brings the total number of funds under the Community Foundation’s umbrella to 365. How do we explain such increases? We know that many Chester County residents have abundant resources, a great deal of generosity, and significant community involvement. Arts, culture, education, human services, health care, and religion are important to the fabric of our community. We also attribute our substantial growth over the past year to the Foundation’s enhanced ability to handle complex gifts; especially planned gifts. The Community Foundation has evolved institutionally into a charitable organization that provides easy, tax-effective, customized solutions for complex philanthropic estate planning situations. Each of the Community Foundation’s major gifts received in the past year have been related to planned giving and estate planning. In most cases, professional advisors (estate planning attorney, accountant, financial planner, and/or investment manager) sought charitable options on behalf of their clients. The Community Foundation provides solutions they need. In the pages of this annual report, we highlight the professional advisor-client-community foundation relationship. Connecting people who care with causes that matter, We invite you to delve in and learn how the Community Foundation makes legacy philanthropy win-win-win. There are a myriad of ways the Community Foundation helps professional advisors find solutions, to help fulfill so their philanthropy makes a difference the individuals’ dreams of giving back to the community, for now and forever. • Serving Career and Technical Education Students in Pennsylvania
Career and Technical Student Organizations Serving Career and Technical Education Students in Pennsylvania 1 Dear CTSO Leaders, As the leader of a statewide trade association dedicated to the growth and development of the technology industry in Pennsylvania, I am keenly aware of the need for a highly-skilled, well-trained, and motivated workforce. At the Technology Council of Pennsylvania, we are strong advocates for advancements in and the promotion of S.T.E.M. education, as well as career and technical training, in order to prepare our young people to succeed in the 21st Century, global economy. That is why we support the work of Pennsylvania’s Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) and the critical role they play in today’s education community. For nearly 70 years, CTSOs have been able to extend teaching and learning through a variety of targeted programs, public-private partnerships and leadership development initiatives that produce technically advanced, employable students to meet the needs of this country’s diverse employer base. Today, the work of CTSOs has never been more valuable as our economy demands workers with a strong understanding of science, technology, engineering and math concepts as well as hands-on technical expertise. The co-curricular approach of CTSOs uniquely positions these organizations to enhance student skill sets and better prepare them to excel in their chosen careers. In order for Pennsylvania and the United States to not only compete, but succeed on a global stage, we need to ensure that the very technology and innovation companies that are driving this global economy have the availability of a well-qualified workforce.
