Benchè la superficie terrestre sia coperta per il 71% da acqua, l'acqua dolce potenzialmente disponibile rappresenta solo lo 0,008% dell'acqua totale. Ad aggravare la situazione si sono aggiunti dal 1950 in poi inquinamento, incremento demografico e, soprattutto, lo sfruttamento incontrollato di questa preziosa risorsa da parte dei paesi più sviluppati con il risultato di una riduzione del 40% delle risorse idriche pro capite. Conseguenza diretta? 1,4 milioni di persone non hanno accesso all'acqua potabile e più di 2 miliardi pur avendone accesso ne subiscono gli effetti negativi causati delle cattive condizioni sanitarie della stessa (in particolare 20 milioni di bambini all'anno muoiono per l'acqua insalubre). E guardando al futuro la situazione non pare in miglioramento. Alcune previsioni affermano che la domanda d'acqua entro il 2050 raddoppierà e a questo punto la domanda mondiale d'acqua supererà le disponibilità di acqua dolce del pianeta portando i 2/3 della popolazione a dover affrontare una seria carenza di acqua potabile. Quello che sconvolge (o comunque dovrebbe far riflettere), dati alla mano, è l'andamento fortemente sbilanciato dei consumi. Il consumo giornaliero medio della popolazione dei PVS (paesi in via di sviluppo) si aggira sui 20 litri, contro i 213 litri Italiani e i 600 litri Usa con il risultato complessivo di un consumo dell'88% delle risorse idriche da parte dell' 11% della popolazione mondiale. E l'Italia in particolare? Secondo i dati forniti dall'EUROSTAT l'Italia è il paese con più elevato livello di consumo d'acqua per usi domestici dell'Unione Europea, con 78 m3 /anno per abitante. (dei 213 litri d'acqua potabile consumati quotidianamente, N°02 infatti, solo 3 servono per bere). L'acqua scende. Scorre. Tutto scorre. Panta rei dicevano i greci caricando le parole di un senso diverso. Panta rei. Tutto scorre. Anche l'acqua. Anche i problemi dei Paesi in Via di Sviluppo sulle nostre spalle. Ma prima che succeda definitivamente, chiudiamo il rubinetto. L'acqua pulita scorre nel serbatoio e le particelle ed i detriti vengono espulsi dal sistema di drenaggio con una piccola quantità di acqua. Fornibili diversi tipi di filtro per rispondere ad ogni tipo di installazione. Secondo livello di pulitura Le particelle più fini di detriti (< 0.35 mm) si depositano sul fondo del serbatoio, l'acqua filtrata viene introdotta nel serbatoio tramite un tubo anti turbolenza per far affluire gradualmente l'acqua nel fondo del serbatoio. In questo modo si evita il crearsi di turbolenze e vortici nell'acqua e l'ossigeno viene introdotto nell'acqua. Ciò permette di avere acqua sempre limpida e fresca. Terzo livello di pulitura Le particelle di detriti che sono più leggere dell'acqua (ad es. i pollini) galleggiano sulla superficie dell'acqua formando un sottile strato. Questo strato galleggiante viene rimosso quando entra in funzione il sifone per troppo pieno nel serbatoio. Un regolare spurgo per troppo pieno è importante per una costante qualità dell'acqua. N°02 Quarto stadio di pulitura L'acqua piovana raccolta viene prelevata dal serbatoio tramite un sistema di prelievo a galleggiante che si trova nella parte superiore del serbatoio. Questo sistema (posto circa 10 cm sotto il livello dell'acqua) si trova nella posizione dove l'acqua è di qualità migliore. Hamzah & Yeang vede tra le sperimentazioni più eclatanti l’Editt Tower (acronimo di Tower Ecological Design In The Tropics), esempio di una città verticale in grado di prevedere tutti gli aspetti della salvaguardia dell’ambiente e della gestione eco-sostenibile delle risorse energetiche. Destinata ad accogliere attività terziarie, l’Editt Tower è un tipo di progettazione integrata non solo per la presenza di dispositivi di riduzione dei consumi, ma anche per l’individuazione delle qualità ambientali preposte a riequilibrare il rapporto fra ambiente naturale e spazi urbani fortemente caratterizzati da un’altissima densità abitativa. Pareti vegetali, moduli fotovoltaici, raccolta delle acque piovane e un impianto per la produzione di biogas: tutto questo è EDITT Tower. Il grattacielo è stato progettato per ospitare un sistema di raccolta dell’acqua piovana ed uno di riciclo per sfruttare tale acqua per l’irrigazione ed i servizi (con un’autosufficienza del 55%) e sarà dotato di una superficie di 855 metri quadrati di moduli fotovoltaici che forniranno il 39,7% circa del fabbisogno energetico dell’edificio.

    Advanced Olympic Research Grant Programme 2014-2015 IOC Olympic Studies Centre Final Report: Governing to maintain legacies: urban governance, policies, and the long-term impacts of the Olympics Mark Davidson School of Geography, Clark University June 2015 1 Abstract Every Olympic host city now pursues an array of legacy goals, ranging from increased sports participation rates and environmental remediation, through to widespread economic redevelopment. With the array of legacy objectives growing, the task of generating and maintaining legacy pledges is becoming ever greater for Olympic cities. This project investigated how four recent host cities – Atlanta, Sydney, Salt Lake City and Vancouver – have gone about the production of Olympic legacy over the medium and long term. The focus of the research was upon the urban governmental practices and reforms that have been undertaken in each city. The research found that the four cities have different post-Games legacy trajectories. However, a number of trends emerged across the different cases, including: the centrality of community development to post-Games venue management, the relationship between hosting models and legacy outcomes, the emergence of trusts and foundations within the legacy project, the tendency for legacy to become site specific over time, and the importance of localised governmental structures to the project of legacy governance. The report ends with a series of conclusions and recommendations.     Biographies of the Richmond Oval Board Members MEMBER BIOGRAPHY Michael O’Brien (Chair) Michael O’Brien has been part of the executive group of the Airport Authority since immediately before the not-for-profit Authority assumed responsibility for the operation of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in 1992. In the years since then, as the Authority transformed YVR into one of the world’s leading airports (including construction of a new runway, a new international terminal and creation of a customer driven organization) Mr. O’Brien has acted as Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors and has been variously responsible for law, government relations, strategic planning, communications, community and environmental issues.
