The original terraces have remained but many of the beds have been redesigned through the ages creating a more gentle and colorful style. Behind the villa we find the park which is a perfect example of Mittle European landscape design. Time at leisure for lunch, in the afternoon we will visit Giardino di Boboli If one had time to see only one garden in Florence, this should be it.

    Discover glorious spring peonies French & Italian Gardens PARC MONCEAu – PARIS A pyramid is one of the many architectural set pieces and fragments that lie strewn around the Parc Monceau in Paris. They were designed to bring together the landscape and transform it into an illusory landscape by designer Louis Carmontelle who was a dramatist, illustrator and garden designer. Tombs, broken columns, an obelisk, an antique colonnade and ancient arches were all erected in 1769 for Duc de’Orleans. PARC DE BAGAtelle – PARIS The Parc de Bagatelle is a full scale picturesque landscape complete with lakes, waterfalls, Palladian or Chinese bridges and countless follies. It’s one of Paris’ best loved parks, though it’s most famous for its rose garden, created in 1905 by JCN Forestier. The very first incarnation of Bagatelle in 1777 was the result of a famous bet between Marie-Antoinette and her brother-in-law, the comte d’Artois, whom she challenged to create a garden in just two months. The Count employed 900 workmen day and night to win the wager. The architect Francois-Joseph Belanger rose to the challenge, but once the bet was won, Thomas Blaikie, a young Scotsman, was brought on board to deliver a large English-style landscape. A very successful designer, Blaikie worked in France for most of his life and collaborated on large projects such as the Parc Monceau. The garden was made for the Italian Queen Marie (de Medici), widow of Henry IV of France and regent for her son Louis XIII.

For evidence to the contrary, look no further than Millennium Park, the $475 million downtown showcase boasting work by some of the world's most prestigious artists and architects, finally opening with a three-day, $700,000 bash starting today. Sure, it's four years late and $325 million more expensive than originally planned, but the 24.5-acre park -- with its exuberant centerpiece, architect Frank Gehry's Pritzker Pavilion -- is a brash and brawny testament to Chicago's vision of itself as a world-class city. Lois Weisberg, Chicago's commissioner of cultural affairs, compares the Millennium Park project to the city's effort in 1893, when it hosted the World's Columbian Exposition, which drew an astonishing 27 million visitors. "That attitude of those people of a century ago is exactly the same as Mayor Daley and the people who created Millennium Park," Weisberg says. "They know that in Chicago, you do things big." And just as in 1893, tourists are expected to flock to see the City of Big Shoulders thinking big. "There's no question about it," says park chairman John Bryan. "Remember, 600,000 people went to Bilbao, Spain, to see Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in its first year, and now we've got a new Gehry masterpiece.     Chicago’s Must-See Urban Oasis Source: www.TurfMagazine.com Dragonflies dance above gently waving grasses; bees and butterflies flit in and out of bright blossoms; songbirds add their lilting melodies to the soothing sounds of slowly flowing water. This tranquil setting lies within the 5-acre Lurie Garden nestled within Chicago’s 24.5-acre Millennium Park. The park is steps from the heart of the city, extending along Michigan Avenue. It’s also one of the world’s largest green roofs, topping seven levels of underground parking garages and an active commuter train system. The plantings within the Lurie Garden were inspired by the native prairie of Illinois and designed by Piet Oudolf, a plantsman based in the Netherlands and known worldwide for his imaginative garden designs. A wooden boardwalk suspended over shallow water divides the garden into a “dark plate” of trees, shrubs and shade-loving plants and a “light plate” of sun-loving plants in an ever-evolving prairie. A hedge of mixed plants and 14-foot-tall metal structure enclose the north and west sides of the garden. The hedge muffles urban noise and protects the garden from the crowds of pedestrians gathering for concerts and special events in other areas of the park.
