The European Water Framework Directive, major surface water flooding events (such as the summer of 2007), recent droughts, the impacts of climate change, and future development needs are all driving the growing importance of managing the water environment. This Advice Note provides information to local authorities on the important contribution they can make to local improvements in the water environment and to meeting the objectives of the Water Framework Directive. It has been prepared by the Environment Agency and Sustainability West Midlands, working in partnership with local authorities from across the Midlands. We are particularly grateful for the assistance provided by Nottingham City Council, Worcestershire County Council and Wyre Forest District Council during the preparation of the document. The Advice Note addresses the following: • What is the European Water Framework Directive (WFD)? • Why is the water environment and the WFD important to local economies and communities? • What are the roles for local authorities under the Water Framework Directive? • How can local authorities contribute to WFD objectives? • What further advice, information and support is available to local authorities from the Environment Agency and others? The members, supporters and Councillors of the Erdington Conservative Association have decided to endorse the submission of the ‘North Birmingham Communities Together’ (NBCT). This decision was taken as the NBCT campaign has gained significant endorsement by local residents, businesses and cross-party support and the ECA believe the recommended changes to the draft proposals present local community identity, and also reflect the desire for electoral equality. The NBCT proposals cover the existing wards of Oscott, Kingstanding, Erdington, Stockland Green and Tyburn. We agree that these wards should re-drawn into the following, with the number of Councillors elected per ward in brackets: Oscott (2) Kingstanding (2) Perry Common (1) Stockland Green (1) Gravelley Hill (2) Erdington (2) Pype Hayes (1) Castle Vale (1) We will now go through, in turn, the main areas of each ward. Margaret Goby Chairman, Erdington Conservative Association Oscott Oscott community, sometimes often also referred to as Great Barr, stretches on the north from Queslett Road to the south along Greenholm Road. Oscott originates from the Old Oscott College Bandywood area of Oscott has identified as ‘Oscott’ for as long as the Oscott ward has existed.

  • BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL LOCAL INNOVATION FUND “Doing Things
Appendix 3 BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL LOCAL INNOVATION FUND “Doing things differently in neighbourhoods to make better places to live” PROPOSAL FORM INNOVATION WARD TITLE Health & Wellbeing Navigators Kingstanding Innovations have to meet the LIF priorities and add value to the City wide core priorities listed below. (Tick all those that apply) City Core Priorities LIF Priorities • Children - a Great • Citizens’ Independence & X City to Grow Up In Well Being • Jobs & Skills X • New approaches to investment X • Housing for • Active citizens & communities X Birmingham stepping up • Health X • Clean streets • Improving local centres What is your innovative idea and how does it show collaborative, partnership working and active citizenship? Our innovative idea is to support ‘more’ older people to live independent and healthy lives in their homes and communities and also reduce costs and burden on Council and NHS services. More and more people are accessing emergency and acute services, which are often not appropriate for their needs and also cost significantly more than if there was better and more effective support in their community. We require a full-time (or two part time) posts over a 12 month (minimum) period to recruit, train and support local residents to become Wellbeing Navigators and start the process of supporting older residents. During the funded period, our plan is to further develop and extend the Wellbeing Service, and as such to retain the paid post going forward, however, as a worst case scenario we would continue to support the Wellbeing Navigators and deliver the service through the existing WLCA team. We will work collaboratively with the local community and stakeholders in Kingstanding to create ‘Community Wellbeing Hubs’, which extend the reach and impact of our wellbeing service for older residents.
