  • Brook Batters Bizier in Powerful Sheffield Clinic
BROOK BATTERS BIZIER IN POWERFUL SHEFFIELD CLINIC Kell Brook delivered the destructive performance he promised in his IBF World Welterweight title defence against Kevin Bizier, dismissing the Canadian inside two rounds at the Sheffield Arena, live on Sky Sports. Big right uppercuts in the opening round was a warning to the Canadian of the barrage that was coming his way. Bizier began bleeding heavily from the nose early in the second round, and he was floored after being wobbled by a right hand, and then got caught heavily again by the Sheffield star and the fight was waved off by referee Howard Foster after two minutes and 15 seconds of round two. ‘The Special One’ made it 36 wins unbeaten in the paid ranks with his 25th win inside the distance in his third defence of his title, and now the 29 year old wants to land a major fight in the summer. “I have power that can knock anyone out,” said Brook. “I want to train for a fight when I have a threat on my hands. I’d love the Danny Garcia fight, the Jesse Vargas fight, I’d take the Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter winner, the Timothy Bradley vs. Manny Pacquiao winner – I want them all. “I want to thank all the fans, it’s been too long since I’ve been in Sheffield – there’s no me without those fans. “I’ve been training a long, long, time, I’ve missed my daughters and weddings to get in the best shape ever. We’ve worked too hard to get this belt and I wasn’t going to slip up tonight.

  • Buckland: I Can Make Prizefighter History Tomorrow
BUCKLAND: I CAN MAKE PRIZEFIGHTER HISTORY TOMORROW Gary Buckland says he will let the favourite tag stop him from making history in tomorrow night’s Prizefighter Lightweights III tournament at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, live on Sky Sports. Buckland is looking to become the third fighter to win the title for a second time and the first two-weight champion, and is the bookies’ pick to triumph in the 34th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one night event. The Welshman triumphed here back in September 2010 in the Super Featherweights, stunning a star-studded field to take the title. ‘Dynamo’ edged out Stevie Bell in the quarter- finals before a brilliant first round KO of Gary Sykes landed him a place in the final against Derry Mathews, where he stopped the Scouser in the second round. “It was four years ago and I only did five rounds on the night, because I was stopping them,” said Buckland. “That was good then but I wished I had the nine rounds now. There was no KO bonus then either! But I have that experience to call on and we’ve trained exactly the same way to get the same result. I don’t like being the favourite, last time out I was an outsider at 12/1 and I went and won it, I KO’d the favourite that night in Gary Sykes and Choi lost to Derry in a war before I beat him in the final, so the odds and who is the favourite doesn’t mean a thing, you just have to pour everything you have into every second.” The 28 year old has happy memories of that night but his last outing was here too and ended in defeat to Richard Commey for the Commonwealth title.

  • Dodd Defends Wbc International Strap Against Patera
DODD DEFENDS WBC INTERNATIONAL STRAP AGAINST PATERA Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd will defend his WBC International Lightweight title against Francesco Patera at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday October 15, live on Sky Sports. Dodd landed the crown in May at Goodison Park with a points win over Pasquale Di Silvio and the popular Birkenhead man makes his first defence in Liverpool as he looks to cement his place in the WBC rankings and move up the ladder. Patera will be aiming to rip the crown from ‘Masher’ though and the 23 year old from Genk has plenty of pedigree behind him at such a tender age. Patera landed the Belgian title in May 2015 in his 11th pro outing, and took Yvan Mendy – the Frenchman that floored and beat Luke Campbell for the International strap in London in December – the distance in May when they met for the EU title, the sole loss on his 17 fight record. Dodd – who was set to face Gary Sykes before the Dewsbury man announced his retirement – is looking to impress in front of the Sky Sports cameras once again following his win at Everton FC and his toe-to-toe British title tussles with Scotty Cardle, and the 32 year old knows this is a great chance to put his name out there for more major titles. “I’m really looking forward to defending my belt for the first time,” said Dodd. “Goodison Park was an epic night for boxing in Liverpool and it’s one that’s going to be talked about for years.

WARRINGTON TOPS HUGE LEEDS BILL ON JULY 30 Josh Warrington will headline a huge bill at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on July 30, live on Sky Sports. The unbeaten Leeds star tops the card in his hometown fortress for the sixth time in two years with promoter Eddie Hearn to announce his opponent on Monday. Warrington’s last outing at the First Direct Arena in April saw him defeat the dangerous Japanese Hisashi Amagasa to move to 23-0 and he continues his hunt for a World title shot on July 30. There’s a stacked bill in support with Olympic gold medal hero Luke Campbell MBE back in title action following his brilliant KO win over Gary Sykes in Sheffield in March to land the Commonwealth title. There’s a tasty Yorkshire derby as Huddersfield’s Tyrone Nurse defends his British Super-Lightweight title against Hull’s Tommy Coyle and Birmingham talent Gamal Yafai defends his Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight title against Barnsley’s Josh Wale. Some of Britain’s best are in action in the shape of British Bantamweight king Ryan Burnett, the return of Birmingham Welterweight Frankie Gavin, his local rival and former British champion Sam Eggington and Brixton Heavyweight Dillian Whyte. “This is by far the biggest night of boxing we have held in the Leeds Arena and there’s some excellent match ups,” said Hearn. “Josh will continue his march to a World title and I’m very excited about the all-Yorkshire clash for the British title between Nurse and Coyle. Luke Campbell is looking to climb the World rankings after his impressive win in Sheffield and hot prospect Gamal Yafai will be up against some strong support and a very game and experienced Josh Wale when defending his Commonwealth title.
