Special Release Republic of the Philippines Philippine Statistics Authority Laguna SPECIAL RELEASE VITAL STATISTICS REPORT: JULY 2018 Births, Deaths, Marriages in Laguna (Preliminary Results) Date of Release: August 17, 2018 Reference No. 2018-017 This report presents statistics on births, deaths and marriages that were registered in Laguna for the month of July, year 2018. The data presented herein were obtained from the documents submitted by the Local Civil Registrars to the PSA Provincial Office and then processed thru DVSS2K system. Caution must be employed in interpreting the data since the figures were not adjusted in consideration of under registration. BIRTH STATISTICS The number of live births accounted Figure 1. The illegitimate, on the other hand, comprised 3,383 live births or 62.7 percent. Figure 2. Percentage of Registered Live Birth by Legitimacy Status in Laguna: July 2018 37.2% 62.7% LEGITIMATE ILLEGITIMATE In terms of attendant at birth, 2,836 or 52.5 percent of the live births were attended by physicians. It was followed by midwives with 1,599 live births or 29.6 percent. Services of traditional hilot comprised 16.5 percent with 891 live births. Figure 3. It decreased by 1.0 from June 2017 of 1,034 marriages. On the average, 33 marriages a day occurred in July 2018. Among the cities/municipalities in Laguna, City of Calamba has the highest recorded number of marriages with 169 couples. It comprised 16.5 percent of the total marriages. It was followed by City of Biñan and San Pablo City with 127 (12.4 percent) and 117(11.4 percent) marriages, respectively. On the other hand, Municipalities of Famy and Kalayaan had the lowest number of marriages with 3 and 5 or 0.2 and 0.4 percent registered marriages. Figure 4. Ranked second was marriages solemnized under Roman Catholic Church with 320 (or 31.2 percent). Marriages solemnized under other rites with 202 (or 19.7 percent). However, one marriage was officiated in Muslim rites. Figure 5. This showed a decreased of 0.3 percent compared from July 2017 record of 1,413 deaths. There was a daily average of 45 deaths or about 2 persons died per hour during this period. City of Calamba shows the highest number of registered deaths for the month of July 2018 with 206 or 14.6 percent of the total deaths in the province. It was followed by San Pablo City and Santa Cruz with 191 deaths or 13.5 percent and 162 deaths or 11.5 percent. Municipalities of Cavinti, Famy, Mabitac and Rizal, on the other hand, had the lowest number of registered deaths posted at 6 persons registered during the month. Figure 6. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths. fetal deaths, marriages and all such events that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records. The reference period of this special release is whole month of July 2018. Some significant concepts and definitions used are listed below. Some points are found in the summary measures used in describing the facts or events. a. MARRIAGE - is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. b. LIVE BIRTH – is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which after such separation, breaths or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of the voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached; each product of such a birth is considered live born. c. DEATH – refers to a permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place (postnatal cessation of vital function without capability of resuscitation). d. BIRTH ORDER – refers to the numerical order of a child in relation to all previous deliveries of the mother. e. DAILY AVERAGE – refers to the arithmetic mean of birth, death or marriage occurrences per day. f. SEX RATIO – refers to the number of males per one hundred females. g. PLACE OF OCCURRENCE – refers to the place where the vital event took place. This release contains statistical tables and graphs encompassing the three vital events – marriages, births and deaths occurring in the province of Laguna.
