New revision of the checklist of amphibian fauna in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1Zimić, A., 2Jelić, D., 3Lelo, S. & 1,5Čengić, M. 1 2 3 4 Herpetological Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina “Atra”/ Croatian Herpetological Society “Hyla”/ Croatian Institute for Biodiversity / Department of Biology, 1st Balkan Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina / 5Department of physical geography and ecosystem science, Lund University, Lund, Sweden Herpetological Symposium INTRODUCTION MATERIALS AND METHODS B&H as a specific region in the north-western Blakan Penninsula (app. 51 000 km2) has a high level of genetic, Distribution maps are present in 10x10km EEA grid system. With new literature and species and ecosystem diversity primary due to the different climatic zones and a larger number of refugial and field data we found significant differences comparative to the previous reviews (Lelo & relict landscapes. It is characterized by high amphibian species richness (Jablonski et al., 2012; Šunje et al., Vesnić, 2011; Jablonski et al., 2012; Čengić, 2013). Summarized literature used for this 2015). Even though that research of batrahofauna of B&H can be traced back to the O. Möellendorf PhD study can be found in the aforementioned references. The taxonomy follows Frost dissertation in 1873, studies of amphibians have been sporadic (e.g. Werner, 1898; Bolkay, 1924; Mikšić, 1969; (2015). Due to unclear/undefined assessments of threats in separated red lists (FBiH, Đurović et al., 1979; Radovanović, 1951; Vukov et al., 2006) untill now. The main aim of this paper is to present RS) we give the first assessment of threats of amphibians in B&H according to the the new distribution maps for all amphibian species in B&H and to give an update of biosystematic informations. There is evidence that 21 amphibian species (including one klepton) occurs in B&H. LC NE Authors have confirmed existence of all them. Some species are rare with few or several findings (2, 7, 8, 9, 14 & 19), 2I 22 and most of the species (48%) have unclear distribution due to lack of data (DD). Within the mentioned species four specific subspecies are reconised (2, 8 & 11). According to the results, we can conclude that for 40% of the territory of B&H there are no specific data on the distribution of amphibian species. Area with the lowest number of data is the northeastern part of B&H (Bosanska Krajina), while most of the data are from central B&H (Sarajevo Canton). However biggest amphibian species diversity shows area of Bosnian Posavina (15 species) while the lowest diversity was recorded in the Mediterranean part (7 species). Five species (13, 14, 16, 25, 21) are probably distributed through whole area of B&H. So, B&H represents area where many amphibian species live on the limits of their distribution borders (red lines). • Marsh Frog ? • Moor Frog • barska žaba • ? močvarna žaba With 65% species of batrahofauna of Balkan penninsula and two subendemic taxa (1 & 2) B&H can be considered as important area of amphibian biodiversity in Southern Europe.
