Finalists do not need to be listening to win. 9. If a Finalist does not win the Grand Prize, he/she will be returned to the entry pool and will be eligible to be selected again as a Finalist for a future game. If a Finalist wins the Grand Prize, he/she is disqualified from again being selected as a Finalist for the remainder of the Contest. 10. Grand Prize Contest – Grand Slam Home Run a. Subject to the conditions set forth in these Contest rules, if a batter on the New York professional baseball team hits a grand slam home run on the 50th pitch thrown to a New York Batter in the Qualifying Game, then the assigned Finalist for that game will be awarded the Grand Prize (as described in Section 16 below), subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Contest rules. If the New York professional baseball team does not hit a Grand Slam Home Run on the 50th pitch thrown to a New York Batter during a Qualifying Game, that game’s assigned Finalist will not win the Grand Prize in the Contest. b. For purposes of this Contest, a Grand Slam Home Run is defined as an official home run as ruled by the league while there are base runners on all three (3) bases – resulting in four (4) runs scoring on the play. c. The hit must be officially ruled as a four (4) run Home Run in the box score and official statistics of the applicable league. i. Inside the park home runs will be eligible to contribute to the winning Grand Slam Home Run provided there are no errors committed on the play, and the hit is officially ruled as a Home Run. 11. Effect of Rescheduled/Cancelled/Incomplete Qualifying Games: a. If a Qualifying Game is cancelled, without being rescheduled, for any reason prior to becoming an official game, all statistics are removed from the official score book and no prize claims will be acknowledged for that Qualifying Game, even if a prize would have otherwise been awarded pursuant to Section 10 above. b. If a Qualifying Game is rescheduled to game date prior to October 31, 2018, then that assigned Finalist and Qualifying Game, as rescheduled, shall be eligible to win under the terms of these Contest rules. c. Any rain-shortened Qualifying Game, or any Qualifying Games that are less than nine (9) innings, shall be eligible for the potential prizes in these Contest rules as long as the Qualifying Game is considered an official game (minimum five (5) innings), and the stats of the game are officially recorded by the league. 12. Qualifying plays in Qualifying Games must be recorded in the game stats of a regulation game played by the New York professional baseball team. If any Qualifying Game is called and therefore not a regulation game, the prize will not be awarded for that Qualifying Game. If any Qualifying Game is suspended and play resumed, or rescheduled to a future date, so that the Qualifying Game is designated a regulation game, even if the rescheduled date of such game falls after the Registration Period, such Qualifying Game shall be deemed eligible for the purposes of the Contest in accordance with Section 10 above. 13. If there is no a grand slam home run at the 50th pitch to a New York batter during the entire Contest period, then no Grand Prize will be awarded in this Contest. 14. In the event that a Winner or Finalist is disqualified, for any reason, at any time, the Prize that he/she may have otherwise been entitled to will not be re-awarded and will remain the property of Station or its designee. 15. Grand Prize winners will be required to sign and return a completed IRS W-9 form, one or more affidavits and/or liability release agreements within three (3) business days prior to being entitled to any prize in this Contest. Failure to do so by that deadline will result in automatic forfeiture of any prize in this Contest. Prizes 16. Grand Prize: A maximum of one (1) Grand Prize will be available for award per Qualifying Game to the one (1) Finalist assigned to that Qualifying Game if the Grand Prize winning requirements occur. Subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the Contest rules, each Grand Prize winner (if any) will receive $5,000.00. The Grand Prize, if awarded, will be fulfilled in the form of a company check payable to the verified Grand Prize winner only and made available six (6) to eight (8) weeks from the date upon which the Grand Prize winner completes and submits all documents required by Station. There may be no Grand Prizes awarded in this Contest or, in the unlikely event of a Grand Prize winner for every Qualifying Game, there could be up to but no more than twelve (12) Grand Prize winners in this Contest. Odds of Winning 17. The odds of becoming a Finalist in the Contest depend on the number of eligible entrants received and the number of drawings each entrant is included in. The earlier you entry this Contest, the greater number of drawing that you will be included in and the greater your chance of winning. 18. The odds of a Finalist winning a Grand Prize depends on the performance of the individual batters during the 50th pitch thrown to a New York batter in the Qualifying Game that a Finalist is assigned to. Sponsors 19. This Contest is sponsored by CBS Radio East, LLC and Foxwoods Resort Casino. Million Dollar Media is the Contest Administrator for this Contest.

  • A Fan's Guide To
A FAN’S GUIDE TO 1 KEEPING SCORE 2 By Bob Brown 3 Never Scored a Baseball game? Want to learn how? Here’s a system for you. It’s the one the Orioles Public Relations staff has been 4 using for more than 40 years. 5 There are countless scoring systems, and we don’t claim ours to be better than anybody else’s, but it has been effective and we think it’s relatively simple. 6 Why would you want to score a game in the first place? Well, if you like to keep track of what’s going on in the game, and your memory doesn’t retain each play, scoring is for you. Any system worth its salt should, in a condensed, shorthand-like 1 Pitcher 6 Shortstop 7 format, tell you not only what each batter does at the plate, but should he become 2 Catcher 7 Left Fielder a baserunner, how he moves around the bases. In short, when you look back at 3 First Baseman 8 Center Fielder your scorecard later, you should be able to recreate the entire game. 4 Second Baseman 9 Right Fielder 8 5 Third Baseman Lesson 1 9 The first thing you should do is memorize the numbers that identify each position (illustrated to the right). Terminology Single Kc Called 3rd Strike Also, you should familiarize yourself with the other symbols listed in the table. + Double Ks Swinging 3rd II Triple Strike Now, look at the basic batter block, below, and notice the III Home Run B Walk Lesson 4 position of home plate and the three other bases.

Hot Racquet or Not? An Exploration of Momentum in Grand Slam Tennis Matches by Arjun Goyal An honors thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science Undergraduate College Leonard N. Stern School of Business New York University May 2020 Professor Marti G. Subrahmanyam Professor Jeffrey Simonoff Faculty Adviser Thesis Advisor Acknowledgements The research done throughout the thesis program would not have been possible without the help, commitment and patience that my thesis advisor, Professor Simonoff, provided. I learnt far more than I could have ever imagined from this endeavor, not just on the research topic, but also about the procedure of research. Many hours were spent peering over models, exploring odd trends in tennis and reading through lengthy drafts; all this effort from Professor Simonoff was invaluable to producing this final paper. I’d also like to thank Professor Subrahmanyam, the faculty advisor and program coordinator, for providing this excitement opportunity to undergraduate students, organizing the weekly seminars and providing the support throughout the research process. Lastly, thank you to my friends and family for providing me with unending encouragement throughout the year. I could not have produced this work without your support. 2 Abstract The hot hand has been a widely studied phenomenon in the field of sports statistics, specifically in basketball. However, tennis is no stranger to this concept of ‘momentum’. Gillovich, Vallone & Tversky debunked the hot hand in basketball with their paper in 1985, but the belief that a player can ‘get on a roll’ is still widely shared in the tennis community.
