2019 High School Baseball Indoor League Guide & Directory 1 | grandslamdsm.com Indoor League Guide & Directory Grand Slam Indoor Hitting League 2019 Baseball League Mission and Information MISSION The Indoor Hitting League is to provide high school aged pitchers, catchers, and hitters the opportunity to compete in a live and game- like atmosphere. It is to give each player more game simulated at-bats and to help prepare pitchers for their upcoming season. LEAGUE INFORMATION Grand Slam USA’s Indoor Hitting League is compromised of 2 age groups: Freshman/Sophomore and Varsity. There will be a limit of 6 teams per age group. The Regular Season will consist of 8 games played in an 8-week period. The 9th, and final week of play will be the Playoffs. Playoffs will consist of 1v2, 3v4, and 5v6 matchups in the final week of games. Teams will be seeded based on the final regular season standings. This league is open to all players for each of the two age groups (FR/SO and Varsity). Each team will play a game on Saturday’s throughout the 9 weeks. RULES • Each team MUST have between 5-12 players on their roster. Each inning five batters will hit per team and this line-up can change every inning. • An inning consists of each team having on turn to bat, with 5 hitters hitting each inning. The visiting team will obviously hit first. • Game will be compromised of a pitcher and catcher against a hitter of the opposing team. ONLY the pitcher, catcher, hitter, and umpire are allowed in the cage during play. • Each game will last 90 minutes or 7 innings, whichever comes first. No new inning can begin after 1:10 minutes of play. • Pitching distance is 60.6 feet per IHSAA regulations. Pitchers will have 5 warm-up pitches or one minute worth of warm-up pitches between innings. • Arguing balls and strikes or scoring decisions will not be tolerated. If Umpire and official score keeper are in agreement of violation, coaches/players/spectators may be removed and team points may be deducted as penalty. OTHER INFORMATION • Indoor shoes are required for all players. • Hitters are required to wear a batting helmet when in the field of play. • Catchers are required to provide and wear a full set of catcher’s gear including glove. • Pitchers must bat first and catchers bat second in each inning to allow time to warm up. • Teams will have 10 minutes to warm-up between games. Failure to notify will result in the forfeit. In the event of a forfeit, forfeiting team will be given an automatic loss and the winning team will be rewarded a 20-0 win. SCORING Umpires will make judgment rulings based on where each batted ball strikes the turf or net. Scoring zones will be clearly marked on cage turf and netting. Umpire may call upon official scorekeeper to assist with scoring decisions, their decisions are final. Official Score Keeper will sit in warm up tunnel in Zone 2. Note: It is acknowledged that sometimes ground balls and bloopers become base hits; however, such batted balls are inherently difficult to score given indoor play on a turf surface with netting. Therefore, in the interest of encouraging hitters to hit line drives and to utilize an objective method as possible for scoring, ground balls and bloopers will be counted as outs. • 0 Points - Strikeouts and ground balls and bloopers that strike the turf or the ceiling net before the "hit" lines • 1 Point - Ground balls and bloopers beyond the "hit" lines not fielded by pitchers, walks and hit by pitch • 1 Point - Line drives striking the net in Zone 1 • 2 Points - Line drives striking the net in Zone 2 • 3 Points - Line drives striking the net in Zone 3 • 5 Points - Line drives striking the net in Zone 5 SCHEDULE League begins Saturday, January 12th and runs through March 9th with the last Saturday being the playoff. Once we get the registration for the teams that will be in the league we will send the schedule out to the coaches and post all information on our website.
