FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Kelsey Rhoney (312-729-3685) GATORADE® NATIONAL GIRLS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: KATELYN TUOHY 2016-2017 National Girls Track & Field Winner and Female Athlete of the Year Sydney McLaughlin Surprises Winner with Honor Thiells, NY. (June 26, 2018) – In its 33rd year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company today announced Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland High School (Thiells, NY) as its 2017-18 Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Tuohy was surprised with the news by 2016-2017 National Girls Track & Field Winner and Female Athlete of the Year Sydney McLaughlin. Tuohy is the first athlete in history to win the Gatorade Player of the Year national title for two different sports, cross country and track & field. Check out the surprise video here. “With national records from the mile to the 5,000 meters, Katelyn Tuohy has reached a level in high school distance running that we’ve seen only once before, with Mary Cain a few years ago,” said Doug Binder, Editor-in-Chief for Dyestat.com. “But to do this as a sophomore, Katelyn’s even beyond Mary’s level of accomplishment. No one in modern times has ever held the outdoor high school records in both the mile and the 2-mile [converted from her national record in the 3200], and Tuohy got both records in high school-only races where she had to do all of the work. Her record-breaking mile in 90-degree heat in North Carolina this June is one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen.” The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Tuohy as the nation’s best female high school track & field athlete.

20/6/2015 2015 Collegians at the USATF Outdoor Championships ::: U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) By Kyle Terwillegar, USTFCCCA June 19, 2015 Recommend Share 11 Follow @USTFCCCA NEW ORLEANS – The collegiate track & field season may have officially ended with the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, but the competition schedule rolls on for many of college track & field’s best throughout the summer. Many of this year’s top American collegians will make the return trip to Eugene, Oregon – or their first trip for the many NCAA Division II and III, NAIA, and junior college athletes who qualified – for the 2015 USATF Outdoor Championships at historic Hayward Field on June 2528. More coverage is forthcoming in the next week, but here’s a look at the qualified and accepted collegiate declarations for both the USATF Outdoor Championships and the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships (to be held concurrently). 2015 Collegiate Men at the USATF Outdoor Championships Event Name Affiliation 100m Trayvon Bromell Baylor 100m Clayton Vaughn TexasArlington 100m Bryce Robinson Tulsa 100m Jarrion Lawson Arkansas 100m Ronnie Baker TCU 100m Tevin Hester Clemson 100m John Teeters Oklahoma St. 100m Kendal Williams Florida St. 100m Quentin Butler TexasArlington 100m Beejay Lee Southern California 100m Aaron Ernest LSU 100m Jalen Miller Ole Miss 100m Markesh Woodson Missouri 100m Carl Horsley Cal St. Northridge 200m Dedric Dukes Florida 200m Trayvon Bromell Baylor 200m Aaron Ernest LSU 200m Kendal Williams Florida St. 200m Beejay Lee Southern California 200m Kahlil Henderson Auburn 200m Bryce Robinson Tulsa 200m Terrell Smith Kansas St.

  • Olympic Trials Proved to Be the One Unfortunate Stumbling Block of the Year
2016 Eugene – July 1 to July 10 The hosting of the Trials in Eugene three times in a row, for the second time, was unprecedented, and while the Trials saw no World Records on this occasion, they did produce a terrific series of marks and dramas. With live action in field events by NBC best described as minimal, US television did a typically poor job in covering what still remains as the best domestic track and field meeting in the world. The crowds and weather conditions were as follows: Attendance: July 1—20,987, July 2—21,866, July 3—22,424, July 4—21,713, July 7—21,835, July 8—22,256, July 9— 22,847, July 10—22,944 for a total of 176,972. (There was no admission charge for hammer day, July 6). Weather: July 1 to 6 —sunny, breezy, with highs of 85, 89, 82, 79 and 84; July 7-—cloudy, rain, highs of 77 and 72; July 9—windy, light rain, high 74; July 10—cloudy, rain, high of 68 100 meters – July 3, 17.53 Hr; wind +1.6 Reaction 1. 3.
