    JOEY LOGANO EARNS BACK-TO-BACK NASCAR VICTORIES, WINNING HOLLYWOOD CASINO 400 AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY Wiley X®-Sponsored Driver Continues His 2015 Hot Streak, Driving Aggressively To Take Lead With Less Than Five Laps Remaining Wiley X®-sponsored NASCAR driver Joey Logano had already cemented his position as one of the eight drivers in the upcoming Sprint Cup Championship Series Eliminator Round with a win last week at Charlotte Motor Speedway — yet he wasn’t going to take his “foot off the gas” for a second. Instead, Logano notched his first back-to-back wins (and fifth overall of the season) by taking the checkered flag at Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. “This is the mark of a champion — driving his hardest at the end of the season, and winning even when he doesn’t have to,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr. “Joey is building up incredible momentum that will make him hard to beat. Racing fans can see how much he wants this Sprint Cup Championship, and it’s going to be very exciting for us to watch how things unfold over the next few weeks,” added Freeman. Logano literally had to battle to the end for this win at Kansas Speedway. This victory wasn’t without some controversy (the race was won after a green-white-checkered-flag restart and an extra two laps past the scheduled distance) but it certainly showed off Logano’s aggressive driving style and desire to win. Logano seemed to have the fastest car on the track all day, yet he still found himself behind Matt Kenseth (also sponsored by Wiley X) in the closing laps of the race.

    MIKE SHIPLETT: Crew Chief, No. 41 Ford Mustang Birthdate: May 17, 1972 Birthplace: Amherst, Ohio Hometown: Amherst, Ohio Residence: Denver, North Carolina Spouse: Brooke When Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) promoted Cole Custer from its NASCAR Xfinity Series team to its flagship NASCAR Cup Series program for 2020, crew chief Mike Shiplett earned a promotion too. Shiplett has been a crew chief for more than 300 races across the Xfinity Series and Cup Series, and it was his 2019 season with Custer that proved to be his most productive. In Shiplett’s first year at SHR, he guided Custer to a career-high seven wins and six poles, with 17 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes and a total of 922 laps led. It was a breakout year for Custer, who entered 2019 after consecutive single-win seasons in 2017 and 2018. Shiplett came to SHR from Chip Ganassi Racing, where in 2018 he earned six Xfinity Series wins, steering Kyle Larson to four victories and a win apiece for Ross Chastain and John Hunter Nemechek. It was a standout year for the veteran crew chief, but it ended up being short lived when Ganassi’s Xfinity Series team was unexpectedly shut down before 2019 even began. But as the door to Ganassi closed, another opened at SHR, whereupon Shiplett’s pairing with Custer delivered almost immediately. The duo scored the first of their seven victories in just the third race of the season at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. (16) No. 42 Viva Vantage Chevrolet SS (Larson) McMurray Overcomes Early Setback to finish 11th at Sonoma In the first of two road course races on the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) season, Jamie McMurray looked to continue his streak of three straight top-10 finishes. McMurray, driving the Cessna Patriotic Chevrolet SS, overcame an early tire issue to narrowly miss the top-10 with an 11th-place finish in the Toyota/SaveMart 350. McMurray entered the weekend as the two-time defending pole winner for the race and hoped to be just the second driver to pull-off the hat-trick of three consecutive poles at Sonoma Raceway (Ricky Rudd won three in a row 1990-1992). Unfortunately McMurray was unable to transfer into the second round of qualifying on Saturday afternoon and settled for an 18th-place qualifying result. McMurray was able to pick-up positons in the early running before having to pit off sequence on lap 10 for a tire issue. The minor setback put the No. 1 Cessna Patriotic Chevy on a different pit strategy than several of the leaders, but the No. 1 team was able to take advantage of some cautions and close back up on the field. On the race’s final caution, crew chief Matt McCall, gambled on track positon and McMurray restarted second with just seven laps to go.

As his racing career progressed at paved short tracks across Florida, Scott competed in a variety of racecars including, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, open-wheel Modifieds and Late Models. After completing two years in the mechanical engineering program at the University of South Florida, Scott moved to North Carolina in 1998 and enrolled in the Bobby Isaac Motorsports Technology Program at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory. While he furthered his education, Scott transitioned from racing to working on the racecars of others. In 2003, Scott went to work for a NASCAR Truck Series team where he changed tires as a member of the pit crew in addition to serving as a mechanic. It was during this time Scott realized that in order to reach his career goals, he would need to return to school and complete his engineering degree. “Tire changing is what got me in the door at the first team I worked with,” Scott said. “I was eager to be involved in the setup part of the equation and help make decisions.
