… in our new luxury theatre-style seating. Experience live events and digital 3D films in total comfort. Mike’s Message At last we have new seats, and many of you have attested that they are extremely comfortable, and give a greatly improved view. A number of other significant improvements completed include the installation on 23 June of digital cinema with 3D capability. The sound and picture are greatly improved and we have opportunity to show films sooner. The new shutters provide a complete blackout which will be good for shows and films. We are investigating the best system to install to help with hearing disability. Other improvements on the way will be enhanced lighting, new microphones, the ability to film and record events, the re-vamp of the disabled lavatory facilities, and repairs to roof and grounds. The new digital equipment will allow us to screen live shows such as the Royal Opera, the Met and National Theatre. We plan our first screening to be the ballet Swan Lake on 23 October - so get comfortable with that glass of wine or hot chocolate.
All this would not have been possible without the fantastic support of Welsh Government funding through the Community Facilities and Activities Programme and, with help Menter Môn, the Rural Development Plan. However, the income side gets tighter as other grants remain at standstill, or are reduced. Therefore, as ever, your support in attending as many events as possible to make the most of this great opportunity is vital. Best wishes for a lovely summer!

EXHIBITIONS ARDDANGOSFEYDD PLEASE NOTE: The Centre has two exhibition spaces: the Exhibition Room, and the Main Hall. Sometimes the Main Hall is used for other functions or events such as films, performances or life classes which can prevent visitors looking around. Therefore it is best to ring ahead to check availability particularly if travelling any distance. The Exhibition Room is always open during normal opening hours and before and during films and performances.

Gorffennaf July Gorffennaf July Saturday 14 July – Sadwrn 14 Gorffennaf ALLENI Alleni is a newly formed community group which aims to develop opportunities for children, young people and adults in theatre related skills. This includes opportunities in singing, acting, dancing and technical skills such as sound, lighting, make-up, set and costume design. Workshops will be available on a regular basis with professionals within the specific field. This will lead into an opportunity to be a part of a large musical production on Anglesey. Membership of Alleni is FREE to any person over 7 years of age.

Cychwyn cyfres newydd gan Marian Bryfdir yn canolbwyntio ar dechnegau lleisiol, ac ymarferion yn y sesiwn bore. Mae’r sesiwn prynhawn ar gyfer y rheini sy’n dymuno datblygu eu lleisiau a’u sgiliau perfformio ymhellach. Bydd y g rˆwp hwn yn paratoi ar gyfer perfformio opera Puccini, Suor Angelica, ar y cyd â Cherddorfa Siambr Prifysgol Bangor yng ngwanwyn 2013. Bydd yn cael ei pherfformio’n addas ddigon yng Nghanolfan Ucheldre a arferai fod yn gapel lleianod Le Bon Sauveur – ac mae Paul, y gloch, yma o hyd i ychwanegu naws a dilysrwydd at y perfformiad!
The start of a new Marian Bryfdir series focussing on vocal techniques, and exercises in the morning session. The free afternoon session is for those who wish to further develop their voices and performance skills. This group will be working towards performing Puccini's opera Suor Angelica in conjunction with the University of Bangor Chamber Orchestra in Spring 2013. It will be performed appropriately enough in the Ucheldre Centre which was the chapel of Le Bon Sauveur nuns - and still has Paul, the bell, to add authenticity to the performance!

The Tethers (Seren, 2009) won the London New Poetry Award for the best first collection published in the UK and Ireland in the preceding year, and her second collection, Divining for Starters, was published by Shearsman in 2011. Fiona Owen is re-starting Rhwng: the Point Between, after its break, with poet and inspiring workshop leader Paul Matthews who returns to Ucheldre with:
10 am - 4 pm/yh BETWEEN YOU AND ME: a Creative Writing workshop When ‘I’ meet ‘You’ I give you my attention, my interest, my growing appreciation, and the need arises to recreate my language to be worthy of the encounter. Through guided tasks in writing (both playful and profound) words will come alive between us. The ‘You’ might be the person sitting next to you in the group. It might even be the chair you are sitting on, or the rose outside waiting to be addressed and recognized. ‘Inter-est’ means ‘to be between’, and whenever that wakes up in us a magic surely becomes possible.
Open to all levels of writing experience, and none.
Ucheldre Kitchen open for light teas before performance.
