I am also interested in research questions that relate to this goal, such as how brain circuits for speech/language change over childhood, what factors explain individual differences in speech/ language performance, how speech/language learning can be improved, and what neural changes occur as a function of learning and training in the auditory-motor domain. To address my research questions, I use classical behavioural paradigms, as well as structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging. We take a peek at a general program that associates vertex (or, chiral) algebras to smooth 4-manifolds in such a way that operations on al- gebras mirror gluing operations on 4-manifolds and, furthermore, equivalent constructions of 4-manifolds give rise to equivalences (dualities) of the corre- sponding algebras. Introduction The main goal of this paper is to blaze new trails between topology and algebra, arXiv:1806.02470v2 [hep-th] 3 Feb 2020 in particular, topology of 4-manifolds and vertex operator algebra. While various connections between these two subjects emerged during the past 2-3 decades, the questions of prime interest in topology | that involve (cutting and gluing) surgery operations | remain, surprisingly, untouched. Similarly, from the algebra perspec- tive, many traditional connections to topology rely on algebraic structures used as an input, i.g. Frobenius algebras in the construction of 2d TQFTs or modular tensor categories in the construction of 3d TQFTs. More recent developments, however, suggest that such algebraic structures can themselves be topological invariants of manifolds, so that one can speak of VOA[M4] or MTC[M3]. Pointing a flashlight directly at these underappreciated aspects can potentially be very beneficial for the development of both subjects. Specifically, we describe a large class of vertex operator algebras (VOAs), each labeled by a choice of a 1 2 BORIS FEIGIN AND SERGEI GUKOV 1 smooth 4-manifold M4 and a root system g of ADE Cartan type. -

Chaos Based RFID Authentication Protocol Hau Leung Harold Chung A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF APPLIED SCIENCE in Electrical and Computer Engineering School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty of Engineering University of Ottawa c Hau Leung Harold Chung, Ottawa, Canada, 2013 Abstract Chaotic systems have been studied for the past few decades because of its complex be- haviour given simple governing ordinary differential equations. In the field of cryptology, several methods have been proposed for the use of chaos in cryptosystems. In this work, a method for harnessing the beneficial behaviour of chaos was proposed for use in RFID authentication and encryption. In order to make an accurate estimation of necessary hardware resources required, a complete hardware implementation was designed using a Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA. The results showed that only 470 Xilinx Virtex slices were required, which is significantly less than other RFID authentication methods based on AES block cipher. The total number of clock cycles required per encryption of a 288-bit plaintext was 57 clock cycles. This efficiency level is many times higher than other AES methods for RFID application. Based on a carrier frequency of 13:56Mhz, which is the standard frequency of common encryption enabled passive RFID tags such as ISO-15693, a data throughput of 5:538Kb=s was achieved. As the strength of the proposed RFID authentication and encryption scheme is based on the problem of predicting chaotic systems, it was important to ensure that chaotic behaviour is maintained in this discretized version of Lorenz dynamical system. -

Kildare, Ireland b Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3UD, UK c Department of Psychology, University College London, Bedford Way, London, WC1E 6BT, UK d School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences, University of Reading, Harry Pitt Building, Earley Gate, Reading, RG6 7BE, UK ABSTRACT Purpose: Previous studies have reported that the planum temporale – a language-related struc- ture that normally shows a leftward asymmetry – had reduced asymmetry in people who stutter (PWS) and reversed asymmetry in those with severe stuttering. These findings are consistent with the theory that altered language lateralization may be a cause or consequence of stuttering. Here, we re-examined these findings in a larger sample of PWS. Methods: We evaluated planum temporale asymmetry in structural MRI scans obtained from 67 PWS and 63 age-matched controls using: 1) manual measurements of the surface area; 2) voxel- based morphometry to automatically calculate grey matter density. We examined the influences of gender, age, and stuttering severity on planum temporale asymmetry. Results: The size of the planum temporale and its asymmetry were not different in PWS compared with Controls using either the manual or the automated method. Both groups showed a sig- nificant leftwards asymmetry on average (about one-third of PWS and Controls showed right- ward asymmetry). -

No.: R52173/RE001 Version 1.0 Date 15th September 2017 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SPEECH RESEARCH Researchers at the Department of Experimental Psychology University of Oxford are seeking healthy fluent speaking male participants for a study investigating stuttering. Volunteers should be male, aged 18-45 years, and native English speakers. You will be asked questions about your medical history to check your suitability for an MRI scan and brain stimulation. The study involves MRI scanning of the brain and vocal tract, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which will take place during one or two visits to the OHBA Centre at the Warneford Hospital in Oxford. MRI gives very detailed pictures of structure and function. TMS is used here to measure the excitability of the brain areas involved in speech production. These methods are non-invasive and do not involve ionising radiation. We will reimburse volunteers for their time and cover reasonable travel expenses.
