It is, therefore, clear to even the most casual reader that Jihad is more than just an intellectual exercise of struggle, but rather an engagement in battle and struggle and warfare, with death as a con- clusion and (for the Muslim) blessing. Muhammed echoed this conclusion in Hadith 4:73: “Mohammed said: Know that paradise is under the shades of the sword.”
