Both outsiders coming to New Orleans such as Ornette Coleman and Cannonball Adderley and locally born musicians such as Alvin Battiste, Ellis Marsalis, and James Black have contributed to this music. These musicians have influenced later players like Steve Masakowski, Shannon Powell, and Johnny Vidacovich up to more current musicians like Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison, and Christian Scott.     2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 75 BY SENATORS PRICE AND SMITH A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Lloyd Price, American Rhythm and Blues artist. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Lloyd Price on May 3, 2021, at the age of eighty-eight; and WHEREAS, Lloyd Price, while a resident of Westchester County, New York, was born on March 9, 1933, and raised in Kenner, Louisiana; his mother, Beatrice Price, owned the Fish 'n' Fry Restaurant where he picked up lifelong interests in business and food from her; and WHEREAS, he received formal training on the trumpet and piano, sang in his church's gospel choir, and was a member of a combo in high school; and WHEREAS, Lloyd Price helped draw national attention to New Orleans' unique and burgeoning Rhythm and Blues (R&B) sound when he recorded his first No. 1 R&B 1952 hit "Lawdy Miss Clawdy"; and WHEREAS, he followed up with singles such as "Oooh-Oooh-Oooh", "Ain't It a Shame", and "Tell Me Pretty Baby", which reached Top 10 R&B between 1952-53; and WHEREAS, due to a stint in the United States Army in Korea, Lloyd Price didn't return to the charts until 1957 with the release of "Just Because" which reached Number three in R&B and became his first pop crossover at no. 29; this was the first release through Price's own KRC Records; and WHEREAS, with distribution through ABC Records, KRC issued several more Price classics: 1958's million-selling no.

    Biography -- Printable Version Peter Wolf's Historical Biography Written & Researched by Bryan Wiser, and Sheila Warren with Mimi Fox. Born in New York City, Peter grew up in the Bronx during the mid-1950's in a small, three-room apartment where he lived with his parents, older sister, two cats, dog and parakeet. For some time, Peter lived with his grandmother, an actress in New York City's Yiddish Theater. She and Peter had a strong bond, and she affectionately named him "Little Wolf" for his energetic and rambunctious ways. His father was a musician, vaudevillian and singer of light opera. Like Peter did years later, his father left home at age fourteen to join the Schubert Theater Touring Company with which he traveled the country performing light operas such as The Student Prince and Merry Widow. He had his own radio show called The Boy Baritone, which featured new songs from Tin Pan Alley, and was a member of the Robert Shaw Chorale. As a result of such artistic pursuits, Peter's father underwent long periods of unemployment that created a struggle to make financial ends meet. Peter's mother was an elegant and attractive woman who taught inner-city children in the South Bronx for 27 years. A political activist, union organizer and staunch civil rights advocate, she supported racial equality by attending many of the southern "freedom rides" and marches. Peter's older sister was also a teacher as well as a photographer who now works as an advocate for persons with disabilities. She continues her mother's tradition, often marching on Washington to support the rights of the disabled.
