Rosie Tebbutt st Newsletter 21 July 2017 Welcome to the final newsletter of this academic year. We would like to say a fond farewell to our Year 6 pupils as they move onto their secondary schools in September. They have made us so proud throughout the year including their fantastic Leavers’ Play ‘The Amazing Adventures of Super Stan’. Years 3, 4 and 5 have been working incredibly hard completing their assessments and I look forward to seeing them develop further as they move up through the school. So many of our children work constantly to be the best that they can be, so it will be very rewarding to see them all having fun on their Golden Day on Monday. I would like to thank all the staff for providing the children with such great learning experiences. They are all very hard-working and dedicated individuals and together they help to make NAJS such a good school. Thank you also to the Governors for their support and to The Friends for all their fundraising efforts this year. Finally, thank you to you and your children for entering into a partnership with us and hope you have a lovely summer break. Important Information Lost Property Please be reminded that school finishes at 1.15pm Any lost property will be in the school hall from on Tuesday 25 th July. 3.20pm on Monday 24 th July. Going Home Arrangements Can we please remind all parents that if your child is being picked up by anyone other than on the contact list, you advise the school office/class teacher by telephone, an email or a written note. This will save us making phone calls home to check arrangements. Thank you. Happy Shoesday Competition Congratulations to the following winners who entered the JRSO’s ‘Design a Happy Shoe’ competition: Daisy Thomas - Castle Isabelle Anders - Crescent Amelia Doncom - Heath Emily Cunniam - Seaview Well done everyone and thank you once again for your fantastic support! Be the best you can be! Year 5 - River Hamble Walk After postponing our river walk the previous week because it was too hot, Year 5 dodged the showers and completed the walk on Tuesday 27 June. We left school at 9:15am and walked into Royal Victoria Country Park, along the foreshore to Hamble Point and then through Hamble Common to Hamble Quay in time for lunch. We were able to see the mouth of the river and discuss the different uses of the river (as well as fill our pockets with shells!) Well done to everyone for completing the walk and many thanks to Mrs Kinsella and Mr Hammond for driving us back to school in the mini buses! Summer Music Concert Miss White would like to extend a huge thank you and well done to all the children and staff involved in the Summer Music Concert on Tuesday 27th June. The concert was a huge success; we enjoyed hearing some excellent musical pieces from woodwind groups, keyboards, upper and lower school choirs, ukulele, recorders and even the staff choir! We would also like to thank Mrs Barnett for all her hard work with the peripatetic music lessons this year. It was a pleasure to hear how musically talented our pupils are! Sophie Gale in Year 4 Sophie recently did the ‘Race for Life Pretty Muddy Kids’ and raised an amazing £180 for Cancer Research. She made the decision herself to take part, as she wanted to do something to help others. Sophie’s family is very proud of such a brilliant achievement and we would also like to say congratulations! Staff Update The end of a school year brings about inevitable changes in staffing and this year is no exception. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues who are leaving us at the end of this term and would like to wish them all the best for the future. Phil Clayton is retiring after being at NAJS since March 2015, Alison Horsley is moving onto a new job at Bevois Town Primary School, Aly Rook is going to a school nearer to home in Portsmouth, Debbie Sanders is also moving to a school closer to home, Stanmore School in Winchester and Lisenka Exell has a new job at Newport Church of England Primary School on the Isle of Wight. Jason Schneider, Helen Parker, Summah Crompton, Theo Dussek are also moving onto new adventures. Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers Update We are delighted to advise we have collected a total of 9,684 vouchers for the school which is double the amount from last year! Well done to Beach class for winning the class competition and to everyone that collected vouchers for the school which will help to buy sports equipment for the new term. Upper School Athletics Team On the 6th June the Upper School Athletics team attended the first of two Cluster Quad Kids Qualifying events at Hamble School. This event requires all team members to compete in four events; 200m, Howler Javelin throw, standing long jump and the 70m sprint. All of the children have been working really hard at practice to get ready for the event, which was enjoyed by all. The team included Lyla Coe, Ella Nowell, Amelia Doncom, Sophie Nowell, Ryan Carroll, Keane Pell, Max Croucher and Lucas Mathews. Lower School Gymnastics Team On the 19th January, the Lower School Gymnastics team represented the school as they came 2nd in the Cluster Qualifiers in the Key Steps competition held at Botley School earlier in the year. The team performed well, showing great sporting values. Although this was a team event, Jude Routledge received a special mention for scoring the highest points in the competition. On the 29th June, the team went to The Hampshire School Games in Aldershot to represent the Southampton Eastleigh & Winchester Cluster forming a team with Berrywood Primary in Hedge End. The team included Jude Routledge, Luke Skidmore, Daisy Phelps, Sienna Moore and Saffira Barkley. They did an amazing performance and came 2nd out of 9 teams in Hampshire and each child was awarded a silver medal. Congratulations to the whole team! Sports Day Thank you to everyone who came along to Sports Day last week and enjoyed watching our very talented children take part in lots of different athletic activities and competitive events. Congratulations to Moons for winning again this year and well done to Stars for coming 2 nd , Asteriods 3 rd and Comets 4 th place. Thank you to everyone involved, especially to Mrs Kenway for organising such a fun morning and to The Friends for providing the refreshments. Bin Bag Bonanza - Year 5 The whole school took part in the Bin Bag Challenge in their house teams in smaller groups. The children designed and made a costume and dressed up a child using 3 bin bags (1 x black, 1x yellow/pink, 1x white). This required an enormous amount of communication and perseverance, which children across the school came together and proved they could do! Year 5 decided who the winners were by organising a catwalk and listening to an explanation of what each outfit entailed.

  • Policy Unit 5C10 Netley Castle to Weston Point Summary Description of Policy Unit
Policy Unit 5C10 Netley Castle to Weston Point Summary description of Policy Unit The shoreline between Weston Point and Netley Abbey is undefended and managed by the Local Authority. The tidal floodplain is restricted due to topography, with residential and commercial properties located on the higher ground, but the flood risk area broadens towards Weston. The foreshore and open space are important recreational amenities; part of the open space is overlying a former landfill site. The sediment transport is from east to west, being fed by relatively low rates of erosion from the adjacent low cliffs. Netley Abbey and Netley Castle are key heritage monuments along with Conservation Area. Inter-tidal habitats of International, European and national nature conservation importance, and inland areas provide high tide roost sites and support the adjacent and nearby SPA/Ramsar sites. This frontage has been assessed in the draft River Itchen, Weston Shore, Netley and Hamble Coastal Defence Strategy, which has recommended a HTL policy for each epoch. Final policy options SMP1 Ref NET1 Hold the Line Epoch 1 Epoch 2 Epoch 3 From Present Day Medium Term Long Term (up to 2025) (2025 to 2055) (2055 to 2105) Hold the Line Hold the Line Hold the Line Summary of ra tionale behind final policy options The final policy options are taken from and consistent with the draft River Itchen, Weston Shore, Netley and Hamble Coastal Defence Strategy. The shoreline between Netley Abbey and Weston Point has no defence structures and historically has not needed beach management intervention from the local authority. The increasing coastal flood and erosion risks over the medium to long-term may however, necessitate beach management and replenishment activities to maintain the recreational beach and to prevent the erosion of the open space and underlying former landfill site.

The Abbey stands at c. 19m AOD but the land rises gradually north-eastwards and inland. In the early C19 Netley Abbey was an isolated spot but it is now accompanied by high density housing to the east and south-east.
