Rosie Tebbutt st Newsletter 21 July 2017 Welcome to the final newsletter of this academic year. We would like to say a fond farewell to our Year 6 pupils as they move onto their secondary schools in September. They have made us so proud throughout the year including their fantastic Leavers’ Play ‘The Amazing Adventures of Super Stan’. Years 3, 4 and 5 have been working incredibly hard completing their assessments and I look forward to seeing them develop further as they move up through the school. So many of our children work constantly to be the best that they can be, so it will be very rewarding to see them all having fun on their Golden Day on Monday. I would like to thank all the staff for providing the children with such great learning experiences. They are all very hard-working and dedicated individuals and together they help to make NAJS such a good school. Thank you also to the Governors for their support and to The Friends for all their fundraising efforts this year. Finally, thank you to you and your children for entering into a partnership with us and hope you have a lovely summer break. We left school at 9:15am and walked into Royal Victoria Country Park, along the foreshore to Hamble Point and then through Hamble Common to Hamble Quay in time for lunch. We were able to see the mouth of the river and discuss the different uses of the river (as well as fill our pockets with shells!) Well done to everyone for completing the walk and many thanks to Mrs Kinsella and Mr Hammond for driving us back to school in the mini buses! Summer Music Concert Miss White would like to extend a huge thank you and well done to all the children and staff involved in the Summer Music Concert on Tuesday 27th June. The concert was a huge success; we enjoyed hearing some excellent musical pieces from woodwind groups, keyboards, upper and lower school choirs, ukulele, recorders and even the staff choir! We would also like to thank Mrs Barnett for all her hard work with the peripatetic music lessons this year. It was a pleasure to hear how musically talented our pupils are! Sophie Gale in Year 4 Sophie recently did the ‘Race for Life Pretty Muddy Kids’ and raised an amazing £180 for Cancer Research. She made the decision herself to take part, as she wanted to do something to help others. Sophie’s family is very proud of such a brilliant achievement and we would also like to say congratulations! Staff Update The end of a school year brings about inevitable changes in staffing and this year is no exception. Upper School Athletics Team On the 6th June the Upper School Athletics team attended the first of two Cluster Quad Kids Qualifying events at Hamble School. This event requires all team members to compete in four events; 200m, Howler Javelin throw, standing long jump and the 70m sprint. All of the children have been working really hard at practice to get ready for the event, which was enjoyed by all. The team included Lyla Coe, Ella Nowell, Amelia Doncom, Sophie Nowell, Ryan Carroll, Keane Pell, Max Croucher and Lucas Mathews. Lower School Gymnastics Team On the 19th January, the Lower School Gymnastics team represented the school as they came 2nd in the Cluster Qualifiers in the Key Steps competition held at Botley School earlier in the year. The team performed well, showing great sporting values. Although this was a team event, Jude Routledge received a special mention for scoring the highest points in the competition. On the 29th June, the team went to The Hampshire School Games in Aldershot to represent the Southampton Eastleigh & Winchester Cluster forming a team with Berrywood Primary in Hedge End. Bin Bag Bonanza - Year 5 The whole school took part in the Bin Bag Challenge in their house teams in smaller groups. The children designed and made a costume and dressed up a child using 3 bin bags (1 x black, 1x yellow/pink, 1x white). This required an enormous amount of communication and perseverance, which children across the school came together and proved they could do! Year 5 decided who the winners were by organising a catwalk and listening to an explanation of what each outfit entailed.
