C M Y K C M Y K From the Group Director's Desk Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe Group Director, WeSchool I Eisenhower Fellow I Senate Member, University of Mumbai It's a VUCA world where the rules of the game have changed. We often hear about terms such as globalization, triple bottom line, more for less for more, disruptive innovation, sustainability, technological revolution, social responsibility, ethics, governance and the list goes on. To keep abreast with the dynamism, there is a dire need for students to hone their leadership skills, have greater awareness of self & context, develop a global mindset, empathy &ethical perspective. At WeSchool, all our efforts are towards grooming our students with these qualities and skill sets. Consequent to the mega shifts that have characterized the global and local business environment over the last five years, WeSchool is gearing itself towards developing the future ready managers and leaders, who are versatile, competent and value based. WeSchool's guiding philosophy has been that of AAA which stands for “Acquisition, Application and Assimilation of knowledge”. Our emphasis is not only on acquisition of knowledge; but on the application of knowledge. We strongly believe that by engaging students in pursuing real-life projects/simulations/case studies, wherein they are able to apply the concepts learnt, helps in permanent retention of knowledge which leads to assimilation. The genesis of Global Citizen Leader program (GCL) has been from our AAA philosophy. Last year, WeSchool students participated in the GCL Program to learn the essentials of innovation and leadership. Students groups were engaged in a local social improvement project. For a period of 6months students groups worked on issues related to Rural, Healthcare, Innovation, Social issues, Human Resources, Urban issues, Infrastructure, Systems & IT and Energy, under the guidance of Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL), USA and WeSchool Faculty members. WeSchool has always believed that programs and course curriculum should be industry oriented and over the years been a pioneer in industry oriented programs like Healthcare, Rural Management, E-business, Business Design, Retail Management etc. Our students have immensely benefitted through courses such as the “Integrative Manager” wherein through team teaching, multidisciplinary concepts are taught to nurture an integrative thinking mindset. Innovation and design thinking has always been one of the strongest pillars of WeSchool's guiding philosophy. We are committed in our journey towards inculcating innovative mindset in our students. In February 2014, we will be hosting INTER-DESIGN Mumbai; a global event organized under the aegis of ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). We School is the only B-School to host this global congregation of the best designers in the world (All the previous editions have been held by Design Schools across the world). The theme for the forthcoming event is “Humanizing the Metropolis”. Students' global & rural exposures and opportunity to engage in several projects and initiatives such as D-Magics, GRLI, SIFE, Udaan and Munijan have sensitized them to their role as an individual to make a difference to the organization they would be working for. WeSchool's association with several leading International Universities has ensured student & faculty exchange and internship programs. I welcome you to the World of WeSchool Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director 4 C M Y K C M Y K Bengaluru Dean's Message I am delighted to announce that WeSchool, Bengaluru, which had a humble start few years ago, has established its presence in the Silicon Valley of India. It was possible only with the constant support of our Group Director, Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe. Being located in the Garden City, each corner of our sprawling campus captures and emphasizes the green color of our brand identity to provide an ideal serene environment conducive for learning and absorbing new knowledge. In addition to PGDM and E-business programs, since innovation has been our focus at WeSchool, we recently introduced a full-time PGDM in Business Design & Innovation program, which integrates design thinking concepts and skill sets into management. The course is structured in a manner that students develop and create new business ideas which are innovative, entrepreneurial and feasible from an organization's perspective. We pro-actively encourage, guide and involve the student fraternity to interact with Indian Inc. 'We Café' initiative, anchored by our students provided great learning experience as it gave opportunity to interact with CEOs/MDs of various leading companies so was the CII Young Indians Chapter in our campus. The series of Roundtables in Marketing, Human Resources, Information Technology and Operations provided a platform for students to unveil their 'Personal Brand' and showcase their caliber to companies. Our students initiated a 'Reduce Plastic-Campaign', in and around Electronic city "WErGreen”, 'Each one Teach one', participation in cultural activities has helped instill and develop humility and humane approach. I welcome you to read the brochure to know about WeSchool, Bengaluru. Prof. Dr. Anil Rao, Dean, Bengaluru C M Y K C M Y K Welingkar is now WeSchool About the identity system About the identity system The understated, almost undesigned font is humble and not stately and awe inspiring like typical university identities. The Trikon that represents body, mind & soul and the coming together of academics, corporate and society looks simple but is actively a potent symbol, constantly pushing us forward, never stopping. The green reminds us that green is going to be the color and nature of all businesses tomorrow. The color purple gives our identity, the assurance and solidity of a university. Business education seeks change. We are the change. At Welingkar, we believe that management education has the potential to influence the country's growth and development. But in an era where emerging unarticulated needs seek newer approaches, being a conventional B-school is not enough. It needs the combined efforts of various stakeholders of management education. That's precisely why we have decided to renew our values, constantly challenge convention and collaborate with the corporate, NGOs, government bodies etc. We would also share ideas and design innovative programs that will equip today's talent to face tomorrow's challenges. Create newer paradigms in the area of management education and transform from a B-school to WeSchool. All this with an endeavor to transform management education as we see it. 'We' is the new 'I' and as Welingkar changes to WeSchool, our actions will embody the spirit of: breakthrough thinking and execution business design every movement *Imp: The change to WeSchool is only a change in the brand identity, to reflect the philosophy of change and represent the multiple campuses that Welingkar has. The legal entity of the institute remains unchanged as Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research. 6 C M Y K C M Y K C M Y K C M Y K Welingkar Milestones Accolades Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Education, with the “MIEDA Award for Excellence in Education Field” was awarded by Shri.
