The diverse superfamily Oestroidea with more than 15 000 known species includes among others blow flies, flesh flies, bot flies and the diverse tachinid flies. Oestroidea exhibit strikingly divergent morphological and ecological traits, but even with a variety of data sources and inferences there is no consensus on the relationships among major Oestroidea lineages. Phylogenomic inferences derived from targeted enrichment of ultraconserved elements or UCEs have emerged as a promising method for resolving difficult phylogenetic problems at varying timescales. To reconstruct phylogenetic relationships among families of Oestroidea, we obtained UCE loci exclusively derived from the transcribed portion of the genome, making them suitable for larger and more integrative phylogenomic studies using other genomic and transcriptomic resources. We analysed datasets containing 37–2077 UCE loci from 98 representatives of all oestroid families (except Ulurumyiidae and Mystacinobiidae) and seven calyptrate outgroups, with a total concatenated aligned length between 10 and 550 Mb. About 35% of the sampled taxa consisted of museum specimens (2–92 years old), of which 85% resulted in successful UCE enrichment. -

A comparison and two of only a handful of evolutionary significant units with six wild lion populations identifies the Addis Ababa lions have already become extinct in the wild. However, there is as being not only phenotypically but also genetically distinct continued debate about the genetic distinctiveness of different from other lions. On post-mortem examination, the stomach of the elephant was heavily infested with the larvae and numerous haemorrhagic ulcers in the gastric mucosa. There were no signicant lesions in other organs. The collected larvae were sent to Department of Parasitology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal for conrmative diagnosis and species identication. The anterior end of the larvae had two powerful oral hooks, abdominal segments had 8 rows of spines around the body and the posterior end had 2 spiracles, each showed three longitudinal parallel slits.Based on these morphological characters, the larvae were identied as Cobboldia elephantis Introduction processed by sedimentation method as per the standard Cobboldia is a genus of parasitic ies in the family, Oestridae. procedure for the detection of parasitic eggs/ova. The genus is shown to have its highest species richness in China and South Africa, with seven species recorded, followed by Mongolia, Senegal, and Ukraine, with six species recorded. Witkamp in Natura Artis Magistra in Schetsen (1876). In 1839 verwierf het toen één jaar oude ARTIS haar eerste olifant. De bul Jack belandde via de rondreizende dierencollectie van Cornelis van Aken in Amsterdam. Het dier zou één van de pronkstukken van het park worden. Vanaf 1847 bleek hij echter steeds onhandelbaarder te worden, waardoor hij uiteindelijk in 1849 afgeschoten werd. Zijn skelet werd te midden van andere geraamtes en opgezette dieren bewaard in het Groote Museum. Deze episode uit de geschiedenis van ARTIS spreekt niet alleen tot de verbeelding, maar kan ons ook heel veel vertellen over de tijdgeest met betrekking tot de verhoudingen tussen mens en natuur, het westen en koloniën en de ontwikkeling van het dierentuin- en natuurbeschermingswezen. In dit onderzoek heb ik geprobeerd om alle informatie die over Jack beschikbaar is, te bundelen in een dossier. -
