Dezember 2015 Drake ist weltweit meistgestreamter Künstler 2015 auf Spotify Der Musik Streaming Service Spotify hat heute seinen alljährlichen Jahresrückblick veröffentlicht und präsentiert damit die Künstler und Songs, die bei Musikfans weltweit in den vergangenen zwölf Monaten am beliebtesten waren. Im Jahr 2015 wurde so viel Musik über Spotify gestreamt wie noch nie zuvor. Mehr als 75 Millionen Nutzer haben über 20 Milliarden Stunden Musik über den Streaming Service gehört und über zwei Milliarden Playlists erstellt. Zudem haben sie mehr neue Musik und Künstler entdeckt als je zuvor: Die personalisierten Playlists “Dein Mix der Woche”, die sich immer montags passend zu den Hörgewohnheiten eines jeden Nutzers aktualisieren, verzeichneten in nur fünf Monaten mehr als 1,7 Milliarden Streams. Das Rennen um den Titel “Weltweit meistgestreamter Künstler 2015” konnte Drake ​ klar für sich entscheiden. Mit mehr als 1,8 Milliarden Streams und 46 Millionen Hörern stößt der Sänger den Vorjahressieger Ed Sheeran als meistgestreamten ​ ​ Künstler 2014 vom Thron. Bei den Künstlerinnen setzte sich Rihanna mit ​ ​ über einer Milliarde Streams und 57 Millionen Hörern als weltweit meistgestreamte Künstlerin 2015 durch. The article draws on songs creat- ed by seven groups of young people in music-based workshops which took place in schools with participants aged between 14–17. During these workshops, songwriting was used to explore the participants' imaginings of what gender might look like in their "perfect world".'After-queer' scholarship is introduced and referred to through- out the paper as it relates to queer theory and research with young people, particu- larly focusing on discourses of risk and vulnerability that emerge across these fields. In addition to purely discriminatory based language, this project also investigated the ways in which race, gender, sexuality, and ability were employed in popular music. Two data sets were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively to find that private and public radio stations in Canada are more likely to censor discriminatory or explicit content than their community station counterparts. Further, discriminatory language based on gender, is not only more likely to be contained in popular music, but it is also less likely to be censored in comparison to language based on racial or sexual orientation based discrimination. The first data set included 485 songs from the Billboard Hot 100 charts between 1985 and 2015. The second data set included 2818 songs from a six-month period (May-October 2015) of the top twenty charts from 27 different radio stations in Canada, including private, public, and community stations. Graduate Program in Music The Ohio State University 2018 Dissertation Committee: David Huron, Advisor Eugenia Costa-Giomi Robert Bond c Copyright by Hubert Léveillé Gauvin 2018 Abstract This dissertation investigates popular music compositional practices and music listening choice behavior in studies that attempt to uncover whether technological changes have had an impact on songwriting techniques, and whether music listening choice behavior can be predicted by these compositional devices. The underlying theory unifying this work is the theory of attention economy: how attention can be analyzed using supply and demand principles to explain and predict information content and human behavior. Two corpus studies were conducted to evaluate whether compositional practices in popular music have changed in the last decades in a way that is consistent with the theory of attention economy. The results suggest that, as predicted, composi- tional practices have changed in a way that favors attention-grabbing behavior. The strongest change observed was the near elimination of instrumental introductions between 1986 and 2015. Building on these results, two behavioral experiments were conducted to test whether these changes are effective ways to grab listeners’ attention. In the first experiment, participants were asked to listen to randomly sampled songs in an un- divided attention setting, while in the second experiment, an independent group of participants was asked to listen to a subset of the same songs in a divided attention setting.
