Traffic Guide for University Catholic Center Traffic Guide for University Catholic Center Event Date: February 17t h, 2019, 6 AM to 3 PM General Tips ● Assume you can’t cross the course: Crossing the marathon course with a vehicle is extremely difficult, and should be avoided. The Austin Police Department will only allow crossings at major intersections, and only when there are no runners present. ● Park strategically: If your trip starts or ends near a section of the course, sometimes the best option may be to park on the more accessible side of the course and walk. For example, if you live on southbound Chicon St., park on the northbound side of the street so that your vehicle is on the side of the street that is open to vehicle traffic. ● Use MoPac, Lamar Blvd., & I-35: These roads are unobstructed for northbound and southbound travel. ● Use Ben White Bvld. (Hwy 290) and FM 2222 (Koenig Ln.): These roads are unobstructed for eastbound and westbound travel. Also, 45th St. is open westbound between Red River & Guadalupe. ● Use Google Maps & Waze: On race day, real time traffic information can be found on sites and apps like Google Maps ( maps.google.com) and Waze (w aze.com ). The Austin Marathon street closures are submitted to these programs in advance, and they will display the closures and the associated traffic. The City of Austin will shut down all roads along the course by 6 AM on race day to ensure the course is ready for runners. Course crossings at major intersections will remain open until just before the first runner arrives. These intersections will be remain closed while runners are present and will reopen following the final runner. The following chart shows the times that runners are projected to pass through each mile marker on the marathon course. Use this to get a rough idea of when major intersections will close and reopen. Camp Kesem is receiving this donation because they won the month-long Austin Gives Miles social media contest that determined Ricky Doyle, Spectrum News Austin Sports Director, would run the marathon on behalf of their organization. Austin Gives Miles is the Official Charity Program of the Austin ​ ​ Marathon. The check presentation will take place on Tuesday, March 27th, at 10:30 a.m. in front of the University of ​ Texas Tower near Mile 13 of the new Austin Marathon course. On February 18th, Doyle was the final marathoner to begin the Austin Marathon and finished in 310th place. Race day weather was ideal and Doyle finished his debut marathon in 3:35:44, earning $1.00 for every marathoner he passed. Doyle was the fourth Charity Chaser and was outstanding in increasing awareness for the Austin Gives ​ Miles program. In addition to earning $3,195 for Camp Kesem, Doyle also raised $3,233 through his personal fundraising page and $256 by asking others to donate one penny to their favorite Austin Gives Miles charity for every marathoner he passed. This brings Doyle's total 2018 Austin Gives Miles financial contribution to $6,684. “I’m so thankful High Five Events allowed me to be this year’s Austin Marathon Charity Chaser,” said Doyle.

    Austin­Oita, Japan Sister City Relationship The Sister Cities Program fosters friendly relations and understanding between citizens of Austin and its sister cities around the world. The program promotes Austin’s educational, cultural and economic presence in the international community. Oita, Japan is one of Austin’s 13 Sister Cities. The Austin­Oita Sister City Committee (AOSCC) was founded in 1990. It is a non­profit, volunteer organization that seeks to promote and heighten public interest in and appreciation of the culture, people, languages, business, and products of the greater Austin, Texas area and the city of Oita, Japan and its surrounding areas. The Sister City relationship with Oita focuses on: ● Exchange between universities. ● Cultural and people­to­people exchanges, with the intent that visitors to the other city not participate in just tourist activities but meet with their counterparts to discuss and learn about life in the sister city. ● Athletic exchanges.
