I hope everyone had a restful long weekend. If you haven’t had a chance, please check out our Scholastic Book Fair in our main entrance. The Book Fair is open before and after school for students and families. It will also be open this Saturday during the PTO Pancake Breakfast from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

The King School continues to provide a half-hour of Mandarin instruction for our students, K-4, per week. Ms. Wang and Ms. Dong, who also teach at Walsh Middle School and Framingham High School respectively, are our teachers this year.

Finally, please join me for a Principal’s Coffee Morning Tuesday, November 20th. I’ll be presenting on our MCAS results from last year as well as introducing the Commonwealth’s new achievement levels and accountability system. We’ll start at 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria with coffee and juice. Hope to see you there!

Have you ever looked at the night sky and thought: Hmm. I wonder what that is! Has your child ever pointed to some point of light and asked you what it is? Wonder no more! There are a few apps available for your phone and/or iPad that will allow you to identify stars, constellations, satellites, and the International Space Station merely by pointing your camera at the heavens. Skyview lite is an award winning app available for free that you can open whenever you see a star or constellation that you want to know more about or become familiar with. You can preview celestial events by referring to Sky & Telescopes Website and reading “This Week’s Sky at a Glance”. It is updated every Friday and will guide you to the exciting sky show of the week! As an example, here’s what’s happening Wed. Nov 14: • The Moon shines in Capricornus this evening. The bright orange point to its upper left is Mars. Several times farther to the Moon's upper right shines Altair, accompanied by little Tarazed (Gamma Aquilae) a finger-width to Altair's upper right. Let us know what you see!

Open Position PTO Executive Board (E-Board)

There is an open position on the PTO E-Board for a Corresponding Secretary. This position will help in securing translations and sharing information with the school community by creating Facebook events, posting updates, etc. The time commitment is 2 meetings a month: an E-Board meeting and the general PTO meeting. Please let us know by Friday, November 30th if you are interested in running for this position by emailing Annette and Jen at [email protected]. At the December PTO meeting, candidates will give a short introduction with the reasons they are running and voting will take place. Please note that you must be present in person at the PTO meeting to vote.

Enchanted Forest Book Fair

Once upon a time, King Elementary School had an amazing book fair thanks to our wonderful volunteers.
