Layment „Of Gods & Goats“ Reviews Rock Hard 8/10 Größere musikalische Veränderungen gibt´s nicht zu vermelden, und das ist gut so. Schließlich gehören LAYMENT mit ihrem zeitlosen, kraft- und stimmungsvollen, mit Folk-Motiven geschmückten Metal zu den originelleren Bands klassischer Prägung. Eine der großen Stärken des Sechsers ist ihr Sänger, der über eine toll klingende Stimme verfügt und sie angenehm unaffektiert einsetzt. Dazu passend haben sich die Gesangslinien nie besser in die Gehörgänge geschmiegt als hier (Anspieltipp: der grandiose Opener ´Another Road´). Ein Wermutstropfen ist allerdings der Schlagzeug-Sound. Zu betont erdiger Musik passt am besten ein ebensolcher Instrumentenklang, aber was der Mischer sich hier besonders in Sachen Snare erlaubt, wäre bestenfalls für ein Proberaumdemo von Ministry diskutabel. Zwar ist die Platte musikalisch so gut, dass man sie trotz dieses Handicaps immer wieder auflegt, aber man fragt sich doch, wieso eine Band, die offenbar genau weiß, was sie tut, sich so was gefallen lässt. (Hendrik Lukas) Metal Hammer 5/7 In musikalischer Hinsicht gibt es an den Herner Prog-Metallern Layment rein gar nichts zu bemängeln. Ihre Songs auf OF GODS & GOATS sind allesamt erstklassig arrangiert, haben tolle Hooks, wunderbar eingängige Melodien und treffen die goldene Mitte zwischen Anspruch und Eingängigkeit. Vor allem Frontmann Marosh Schmidt wird seiner Verantwortung als Galionsfigur dieser Band vollauf gerecht. Der Mann hat internationales Format und würde gegen ausgewiesene Spitzenleute wie Zachary Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle), Matt Barlow (Iced Earth) oder seinen deutschen Kollegen Andy B. Franck (Brainstorm) zu keinem Zeitpunkt den Kürzeren ziehen. Apropos: Die in genannten Bands etablierte Mischung aus Power Metal und progressiven Versatzstücken veredelt auch bei Layment ausgewachsenes Kraftfutter wie ‘Another Road’, ‘To The Ravens’ oder das hymnische ‘Beauty Beast’, um zwischenzeitlich in ‘The Seafarer’ die Härte graduell hochzufahren und die Drums eine Spur aggressiver zu platzieren.

BEYOND FEAR Und Dem Gleichnamigen Debüt Und Zeigt Wie Ein Metal Album Zu Klingen Hat
Einer der besten Metal Sänger der letzten Jahre ist zweifelsohne Tim „Ripper“ Owens und es war klar, dass wir nach seiner Zeit bei Judas Priest noch Einiges von ihm zu hören bekommen. Zunächst gab es das Iced Earth Album „The Glorious Burdon“ bei dem Tim hervorragende Leistung brachte. Das Album aber im Großen und Ganzen auf geteilte Meinungen stieß. Mein Kriterium an diesem Album war in erster Linie das die Songs nicht auf Tim, sondern seinen Vorgänger Matt Barlow zugeschnitten waren. Nun kommt der Ausnahmesänger mit seiner Band BEYOND FEAR und dem gleichnamigen Debüt und zeigt wie ein Metal Album zu klingen hat. Tim, zunächst möchte ich dir zu deinem neu- ne Bihary (g) und Eric Elkins (d) en Album gratulieren. Klasse, der Silberling brachte John mit. und allem voran der Song „Scream Machine“. Wir alle wohnen nah beieinan- Wieso heißt die Band eigentlich nicht so? der, dass war wichtig für mich.
