Aquellos clubes que por méritos deportivos de sus respectivos equipos tengan derecho a participar en una de las competiciones oficiales de ámbito estatal no profesional con el equipo correspondiente, tendrán derecho a inscribir a sus equipos en la competición dentro del período fijado para ello.     LEARNING FROM THE BEST Gabriel Masfurroll Foreword I first met Gabriel Masfurroll in the seventies, when he was a teenager and a competitive swimmer. At that time, swimming played a very important part in my life because the European Championships held in Barcelona in 1970, in which I participated actively, were an excellent yardstick for the Olympic Games of 1992. Masfurroll was living in the Residencia Joaquín Blume in Barcelona, run by my friend Ricardo Sánchez, and we had good friends in common such as Santiago Esteva and Maria Paz Corominas, swimmers who in their day were key figures in Spanish sport. I shall never forget something ‘Gaby’, as his friends call him, said to me when he was still very young: “Mr. Samaranch, when I grow up I want to be like you and match your achievements. I also love sport and believe I can do a lot for it”. It comes as no surprise to me, then, to see Masfurroll holding positions of responsibility in leading sporting institutions. A few years later, I met up with “Gaby” again when he was head of the Quirón Clinic in Barcelona. Since then we have kept in touch on a regular basis. We have met and written to each other on numerous occasions and I recall a beautiful picture, on display at the headquarters of the Olympic Committee in Lausanne, which he gave me on one of his visits. I have followed his career very closely over these years and that phrase “when I grow up I want to be like you”, made me take a keen interest in both his personal and professional development.

Antonio Baró Armengol, a cuyo cargo estuvo el mando del fútbol profesional español en estos últimos catorce años, en los cuales hemos vivido un extraordinario desarrollo de nuestra actividad y hemos asistido al éxito de nuestros clubes y S.A.D. en el concierto internacional. Su talante comprensivo y negociador han marcado una lí- nea a la que no podemos ni queremos renunciar, siempre con el reto de mejorar las condiciones en las que se desenvuelve nuestra función. La sucesión de Antonio Baró significa- ba, también, un momento decisivo para la Liga Nacional de Fútbol Pro- fesional que no había vivido ningunas elecciones a lo largo de su historia. Se trataba de mantener la unidad entre todos los clubes y dar un paso al fren- te hacia los nuevos tiempos, con una organización avanzada, eficaz y preparada para dejar oír su voz en los nuevos escenarios que se plantean en el nuevo siglo. Por ello, la mayoría de nuestros clubes y S.A.D. apostaron por una presidencia profesional y a plena dedicación que supone todo un reto personal y una gran ilusión para mí y para mi equipo. Integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality and professional behaviour are fundamental principles for every accountant. The NBA assists accountants to fulfil their crucial role in society, now and in the future. Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants 2 Introduction Football and professional football organisations (hereinafter: clubs) are always in the public eye. Even though the Professional Football sector’s share of gross domestic product only amounts to half a percent, it remains at the forefront of society from a social perspective. The Netherlands has a relatively large league for men’s professio- nal football. 34 clubs - and a total of 38 teams - take part in the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie (division one and division two). From a business economics point of view, the sector is diverse and features clubs ranging from listed companies to typical SME’s. Clubs are financially vulnerable organisations, partly because they are under pressure to achieve sporting success. For several years, many clubs have been showing negative operating results before transfer revenues are taken into account, with such revenues fluctuating each year. This means net results can vary greatly, leading to very little or even negative equity capital. In many cases, clubs have zero financial resilience. At the end of the 2017-18 season, this was the case for a quarter of all Eredivisie clubs and two thirds of all clubs in the Eerste Divisie.
