These microscopic fungi are characterized by an ectoparasitic lifestyle on arthropods, determinate growth, lack of asexual state, high species richness and intractability to culture. DNA extraction and PCR amplification have proven difficult for multiple reasons. DNA isolation techniques and commercially available kits are tested enabling efficient and rapid genetic analysis of Laboulbeniales fungi. Success rates for the different techniques on different taxa are presented and discussed in the light of difficulties with micromanipulation, preservation techniques and negative results. In 2012 the first 17 established population of H. axyridis was recorded in the Caucasus in Sochi (south of European Russia, 18 Black sea coast). By 2018 the ladybird has spread to the vast territory: Armenia, Georgia and south 19 Russia: Adygea, Krasnodar territory, Stavropol territory, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria and North 20 Ossetia. Examination of 213 adults collected in Sochi in 2018 have shown that 53% of them are infested 21 with Hesperomyces virescens fungi (Ascomycota: Laboulbeniales) and 8% with Parasitylenchus 22 bifurcatus nematodes (Nematoda: Tylenchida, Allantonematidae).

The results of this study indicate a shortest immature developmental period (IDP) of A. decempunctata feeding on eggs of E. kuehniella (18.33 days) and the longest on A. fabae (21.82 days). Only one representative of Harmonia MULSANT , 1850 genus occurs naturally in Europe, namely Harmonia quadripunctata (PONTOPPIDAN 1763). H. axyridis is not of Europe origin. Its natural range was probably Eastern Asia: from the Altay Mountains to the Pacific Coast and from southern Siberia to southern China. Due to its great voraciousness the species was considered to be a helpful one to fight aphids and that is why it was induced in North America and Western Europe in greenhouses. However, it soon went out of control and quickly invaded large areas of the USA and Western Europe. It is also reported from South America.

Redak3 Abstract We determined the impact of insects on both acorns and seedlings of coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia Nee) and Engelmann oak (Quercus engelmannii E. Greene). Our goals were to (1) identify insects feeding on acorns and levels of insect damage, and (2) measure performance and preference of a generalist leaf-feeding insect herbivore, the migratory grasshopper (Melanoplus sanguinipes [Fabricus] Orthoptera: Acrididae), on both species of oak seedlings. Acorn collections and insect emergence traps under mature Q. agrifolia and Q. engelmannii revealed that 62 percent of all ground-collected acorns had some level of insect damage, with Q. engelmannii receiving significantly more damage. However, the amount of insect damage to individual acorns of both species was slight (<20 percent damage per acorn). Curculio occidentis (Casey) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Cydia latiferreana (Walsingham) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), and Valentinia glandulella Riley (Lepidoptera: Blastobasidae) were found feeding on both species of acorns. No-choice and choice seedling feeding trials were performed to determine grasshopper performance on the two species of oak seedlings. Quercus agrifolia seedlings and leaves received more damage than those of Q. engelmannii and provided a better diet, resulting in higher grasshopper biomass. Hesperomyces virescens is an ectoparasite of some Coccinellidae, which until the mid-1990s was relatively rarely only reported from warm regions in various parts of the world. Analysis of the host and distribution data of H. virescens recorded in the Western Palaearctic and North America reveals several trends in the occurrence and abundance of H. virescens: (1) it has recently been much more frequently recorded, (2) most of the recent records are for more northerly (colder) localities than the early records and (3) the recent records are mostly of a novel host, the invasive harlequin ladybird (Harmonia axyridis). While in North America H. virescens is almost exclusively found on H. axyridis, all European records of this association are very recent and still less numerous than records of Adalia bipunctata as a host.

Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, České Budějovice, Czech Republic. 34 pp. Annotation This study uses cca. 510 bp of mitochondrial 16S rDNA gene for phylogeny of the beetle family Cerambycidae particularly the subfamilies Spondylidinae and Lepturinae using methods of Minimum Evolutin, Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Analysis. Two included representatives of Dorcasominae cluster with species of the subfamilies Prioninae and Cerambycinae, confirming lack of relations to Lepturinae where still classified by some authors. The subfamily Spondylidinae, lacking reliable morfological apomorphies, is supported as monophyletic, with Spondylis as an ingroup. Our data is inconclusive as to whether Necydalinae should be better clasified as a separate subfamily or as a tribe within Lepturinae. Of the lepturine tribes, Lepturini (including the genera Desmocerus, Grammoptera and Strophiona) and Oxymirini are reasonably supported, whereas Xylosteini does not come out monophyletic in MrBayes. Rhagiini is not retrieved as monophyletic. Position of some isolated genera such as Rhamnusium, Sachalinobia, Caraphia, Centrodera, Teledapus, or Enoploderes, as well as interrelations of higher taxa within Lepturinae, remain uncertain.
