The Sheepdogs Have at It Synopsis
THE SHEEPDOGS HAVE AT IT SYNOPSIS The Sheepdogs Have At It joins the Rolling Stone cover winners at the apex of their newfound fame and a crossroads in their careers. One might think that newfound fame would lead successful young rock stars to rest on their laurels, but nothing could be further from the truth. More than ever, with the whole world watching, the Sheepdogs need to get down to business. We join the band at their Saskatoon homecoming show in October 2011. They’ve returned for the first time since winning the Rolling Stone cover contest, this time as the opening act for Kings of Leon. We meet them and see them play for thousands of fans, their biggest audience yet. But the big task is still ahead. In January, The Sheepdogs go into a Nashville studio to record their new album, now backed by Atlantic records. Patrick Carney of The Black Keys is producing the record, and the guys have only 17 days to lay down the new tracks. This story follows the Sheepdogs into the studio as this task is carried to fruition, while alternating between the band’s current tour around the continent. There is a staggering amount of work to be done and the guys needs to keep on top of it. Occasionally, we take a big jump back in time to the early days of the band. There was a period, less than a year ago, when things weren’t going so well for the Sheepdogs. For seven years, the band had toiled in obscurity with almost no recognition. -

Synopsis In January of 2011, The Sheepdogs were an unknown rock band from Saskatoon, Canada. They were touring in a broken van, playing a brand of vintage rock music that everyone told them would never get radio play. But after winning a place on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, everything changed. After such a meteoric rise to fame, what happens next? How do The Sheepdogs prove they’re more than a band who won a contest? The Sheepdogs Have At It follows the guys into a Nashville recording studio as they make their new album with producer Patrick Carney from The Black Keys. The band’s fate rests upon the success of this new record, and all eyes are upon them. All the while, we follow The Sheepdogs to live performances all over North America, as they win over fans, one audience at a time, with their unique brand of vintage rock and roll, which, it turns out, radio audiences are responding to. This is the story of four young men standing on the brink of superstardom, who now, more than ever, must prove themselves to the world. It’s also a look inside a changing music industry and the art of tactical manipulation by the band’s support network of management, marketing and agents who must work miracles with limited resources. -
The Sheepdogs ›Tour 2022‹
THE SHEEPDOGS ›TOUR 2022‹ Neue EP ›No Simple Thing‹ ab 28. -

NEWS RELEASE FEBRUARY 7, 2018 AREA 506 breaks up New Brunswick Winter to present The Sheepdogs in Saint John SASKATCHEWAN ROCKERS TO PERFORM AT THE KENT THEATRE MARCH 13 Saint John, NB – Saint John’s Area 506 Festival, in partnership with Shivering Songs, has announced that the Sheepdogs’ Changing Colours release tour will hit the Port City March 13 at the Kent Theatre. Special guests include Dine Alone Recording artists and princes of the underground, Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs. Tickets go on sale this Thursday, February 8 at area506.ca. “The Sheepdogs have been on our wish list since 2016, and when we heard they were coming through New Brunswick, we knew it was something we needed to aggressively pursue” said Ray Gracewood, Chairperson for Area 506. “Saint John needs to be an option for these bands, and we’re confident the people of Saint John will support great rock & roll. We’ve got this great momentum happening now, and we’ll continue to do what we can to ensure great bands have the Port City on their radar”. The Sheepdogs became the first unsigned band to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine in 2011. They’ve since become one of the most in demand acts in North America. Two years on from delivering Future Nostalgia, the band have lifted the curtain on their sixth studio effort, Changing Colours. Running 17 tracks in length, it marks the first album to feature guitarist Jim Bowskill, who joined in 2015. The Juno Award winners have already shared Changing Colours’ debut single, "I've Got a Hole Where My Heart Should Be.” "This album has a much wider range of sounds on it: trombone, clarinet, Latin percussion, pedal steel, fiddle and banjo all make an appearance," the band said in a statement. -

May 26, 2016 BACKGROUNDER 2016 Coca-Cola Stage lineup Christian Hudson Appearing Thursday, July 7, 7 p.m. Website: http://www.christianhudsonmusic.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ChristianHudsonMusic Twitter: www.twitter.com/CHsongs While most may know Christian Hudson by his unique and memorable performances at numerous venues across Western Canada, others seem to know him by his philanthropy. This talented young man won the prestigious Calgary Stampede Talent Show last summer but what was surprising to many was he took his prize money of $10,000 and donated it all to the local drop-in centre. He was touched by the stories he was told by a few people experiencing homelessness he had met one night prior to the contest’s finale. His infectious originals have caught the ears of many in the industry that are now assisting his career. He was honoured to receive 'The Spirit of Calgary' Award at the inaugural Vigor Awards for his generosity. Hudson will soon be touring Canada upon the release of his first single on national radio. JJ Shiplett Appearing Thursday, July 7, 8 p.m. Website: http://www.jjshiplettmusic.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jjshiplettmusic/ Twitter: www.twitter.com/jjshiplettmusic Rugged, raspy and reserved, JJ Shiplett is a true artist in every sense of the word. Unapologetically himself, the Alberta born singer-songwriter and performer is both bold in range and musical creativity and has a passion and reverence for the art of music and performance that has captured the attention of music fans across the country. He spent the major part of early 2016 as one of the opening acts on the Johnny Reid tour and is also signed to Johnny Reid’s company. -

The Music Distribution Industry in Canada 2006
THE MUSIC DISTRIBUTION INDUSTRY IN CANADA 2006 BY LARRY LEBLANC FEB. 2006 This report has been prepared by Larry LeBlanc for the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB). The purpose of this document is to provide a profile of the English and French-language components of distribution of the Canadian-owned label and artist sector as well as Canadian artists signed or distributed by multinationals in Canada. The report specifically discusses changes in the music distribution sector in Canada since 1998. As well, such newly emerging factors as the rise of widespread Internet-based downloading; the rise of music subscription services; and the use of ringtones, ringtunes and podcasting in affecting music sales are also discussed. The report indicates that Canadian music retail has become more consolidated and more selective with product choices. Major music retailers carry a different product mix today than a decade ago. There are fewer music CDs, and more film-related DVD and computer game product. Although radio remains a critical vehicle for the Canadian record industry, labels and retailers cite a waning impact of the medium on overall sales. The study is based on a review of existing documentation, secondary research as well as analysis and findings drawn from 11 interviews conducted by Larry LeBlanc, as the principal source of primary research. Music OVERVIEW Canada's small market size, and a sizable support infrastructure is enabling the domestic industry to develop distinct acts for audiences home and abroad. In the past three years, global markets have embraced a new wave of formidable Canadian English-language rock acts including: Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Death From Above 1979, Feist, Stars, the Dears, Alexisonfire, Metric, Bedouin Soundclash, and Hot Hot Heat; as well as such French-language acts as Corneille, and Lynda Lemay. -
