"A-B-C-SJ: Adult, Baby, and Child's Surprise Jacket" by Experience level: Advanced beginner. Comfortable knitting, purling, increasing and decreasing Join Amy in knitting a "Baby Surprise Jacket," which was designed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in 1968 and remains a popular baby garment to this day. It is an excellent pattern for making use of oddments of yarn or self striping yarns with long color repeats, but looks equally nice knit in a single color with a contrasting button band. The jacket is knit in a single piece with just two seams that run across the shoulders and down the length of the sleeves. It includes extra ease across the back of the garment to fit well over a nappy (diaper). Commonly referred to as the “BSJ”, the baby surprise jacket is a very entertaining piece of knitted engineering.

Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, by Julie Weisenberger Experience level: Advanced beginner. Comfortable casting on and binding off, knitting and purling, picking up stitches and doing basic increases and decreases. The Cocoknits Method was developed by Julie Weisenberger and uses top-down knitting that incorporates increases at specific intervals to create three-dimensional shaping that doesn’t require seaming, The neck, shoulders, and yoke are created together, so the shaping is sloped to hug the body in a flattering way. The yoke is worked following your customized color-coded Cocoknits Worksheet. The Worksheet tells you where the shaping happens in relation to the markers (before or after). Then you cruise along with knitting and don’t have to count or read abbreviations as you knit. Once the yoke is complete, the body and sleeves are worked seamlessly down to the and cuffs. It’s easy to try on your sweater as you work and adjust, if necessary. Then all you have to do is sew up the underarm, and your sweater is ready to wear! When you’ve completed your sweater, you’ll have a customized pattern to work again in a different yarn or colorway with all the shaping in the right places for you.
