This academic year has seen Phoenix adopting a positive stance towards recycling in school. Co-ordinated by Mr D Russell, recycling boxes have been placed in specific classrooms around the school to be used for the purpose of recycling plastic and paper material. Certain students have become ‘Recycling Ambassadors’ assigned to co-ordinate the use of recycling bins in designated areas of the school building. Pictured here is Miya Patel-Williams (sixth form B Block Recycling Ambassador) in her attempt to kick-start the process of Phoenix aiming to convert more waste into re-usable material.

Following the birth of Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, our SEN students sent some amazing cards to celebrate his birth and in July, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent ‘their best wishes and heartfelt thanks’ to staff and students at Phoenix. Mr Jones, Special Educational Needs Coordinator said ‘the students wanted to do something different as part of their work on British Values and literacy skills. This is a great example of the diversity of work across the school community’. Success story A former Phoenix student, Jardell Miller, 19, is chasing his dream of becoming a police officer after completing his Special Constable training and attesting in May 2019. Jardell, who started his journey at Phoenix in 2011 as a Year 7 student, says he has always wanted to join the police to make a difference to the lives of people in the community. He is no stranger to the world of policing as he was elected as Youth Police and Crime Commissioner in 2014 at the age of just 15.
