The land was then transferred to Arthur’s son Cornelius Quintal upon his death. Known as Pa Cornish, Cornelius Quintal was born on Pitcairn in 1841. After arriving on Norfolk he worked for the Melanesian Mission, but later went to sea as a whaler, and was considered one of the finest whalers to come out of Norfolk Island. Pa Cornish lived in the house and was the leader of the Methodist church on the island. Dwight Allen, an American Whaler who arrived on Norfolk in Feb 1866, apparently built the House for Cornelius (or at least extended it in the late 1800’s) and I have been told it was in exchange for the land where the current Post office is. Interestingly a large part of the house was built out of recycled material, being mainly wood and stone from the convict buildings at Kingston and Longridge. At the time timber was very expensive and time consuming to cut, as every piece needed to be hand cut, hence many of the convict buildings were utilised. This is most obvious underneath the convict floorboards and in the ceiling, with many of the pieces of timber showing mortises and characteristics of their previous life used elsewhere. The Museum Trust were able to make this purchase as a result of accumulated profits from the Trial of the Fifteen play and the arrangement made by the late Peter Clarke, the author of the play, on how they could be expended. Peter’s son Stephen now holds the rights to the play and each year he agrees with the Trust on This Week at Norfolk Island Museum a program of expenditure. This year that included the purchase of acquisitions for the museum collection. Major New Acquisition (continued overleaf) A few weeks ago the Norfolk Island Museum Trust purchased a convict made chest of drawers that had been locally put up for tender. Made of Norfolk Island Pine it is stamped BO - CD. The BO is for the Board of Ordnance and CD Commissariat Department. The broad arrow was used as an identification of British government property. As the museum is located in the basement of the Commissariat - it has made its way ‘home’ to the building it would have been issued from!

TheTHIS WEEKEND Theatreall the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp. It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history. CALLING AN AMBULANCE

When confronted by a sudden accident or illness and you want help. The quickest way to get help: • Ring for the Ambulance, 22091 or 911 • Give the exact location, landmarks etc. • Speak slowly and clearly. • Give your name and the phone number you are ringing from. • Give the number of casualities [if a multi person accident] • Give the name of the patient if known [this is important on Norfolk as the hospital will have records of that person] • State if any other emergency service is required eg. Police, Cliff rescue etc. Telephone • Do NOT hang up till the hospital hangs up, they may have other questions 22091 or 911 they would like to ask. What is a Christian. Quite simply, a Christian is one who sustains a right relationship with Jesus Christ. A Christian enjoys a kind of Union with Jesus superseding all other relationships. This is a generation of questions. “What do you think of the Bible?...What do you think of the church? Questions are important to ask, but it is more important to ask the right ones. A successful lawyer will win or lose a case simply by questions he asks or does not ask. There is no end to questions. I believe the whole thing can be boiled down to one important question, if answered correctly, will solve all the other questions. So the question before us that really matters is simply...what do you think of Christ? And what are you going to do with Christ? Unless this is fully addressed nothing else really matters. The question is not what proof we have of Christianity, because we are not dealing with Christianity, we are dealing with Christ. The worshiping heart knows He is what he claimed to be, because God sent his Holy Spirit to carry the confirmation to the conscience of man. It does not lie with evidence. History can offer no higher evidence than the fact that God raised Christ from the dead. The conscience knew that Christ had risen and appeared to Peter and 500 others at once and God had approved Him, validated Him, marked Him, sealed Him, and approved Him to be his Christ. The truth of Christ rising from the dead leaps past all human reason and goes straight to the conscience of every human person, so that as soon as a message is preached, everyone can know it immediately. They do not have to ask. God sent His Spirit to carry the verdict to the conscience of man. I could argue with a man, I could reason with him, I could preach to him but when it was all over I could only convince his mind. Our consciences can only be awakened by the presence of Jesus having come out of the grave. To have a saviour we can trust, He had to live among men, holy and harmless, spotless and undefiled. He had to die for man and then rise on the third day according to the Scripture. What the Spirit of God carries back home to the heart, the Holy Spirit speaks to our consciences, and we cannot escape until we have done something about Jesus Christ. Have you asked yourself the question...What am I doing about Christ? God Bless. GN Schedule For June 2014

BILL PRESENTED IN THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ON 21 MAY 2014 The following Bill was presented 

Immigration (Amendment) Bill 2014 Imagrieshan (Chienjen) Bil 2014 This Bill seeks to amend the Immigration Act 1980 (“the Act”) by amending the provision of the Act (subsection 28A(3)) that provides a sunset provision in respect of persons seeking a declaration of permanent residency of Norfolk Island and who are the holders of an unrestricted entry permit (ie are Australian or New Zealand citizens). The sunset provision applies in respect of the requirement that an applicant for permanent residency must satisfy the Minister (if they are over the age of 18 years) that they are of good character. The Act at present applies a 10 year sunset provision to all applicants but it is intended by the Bill to apply the sunset provision only to Australian citizens while removing the provision as regards New Zealand citizens who will as a consequence of the amendment be required to provide evidence of good character until such time, if any, as the requirement may be removed or amended. It is intended that any persons holding dual citizenship one of which is Australian shall have the amended provision applied to them on the basis of their Australian citizenship being held at the time of their application and at the time of consideration of their application by the Minister. Evidence of such Australian citizenship will need to be provided with their application for residency by citizenship.
