I'd particularly like to mention Michelle Nielsen, Stacey Pittendrigh, Matt resignation of our much loved and admired Chairman Mr John Critchley. Not the least was our Trodden and Danielle Kifooti. There is a real comradery and team spirit in the work this dedicated Balmain Leagues Club being placed into administration and the redundancy of many staff group of professionals do for our great club, which, time and time again, goes above and beyond including our long serving General Manager Jennie Webster. the call of duty. I'd also like to recognise Dr Leslie Glen and his fellow Balmain Tigers Football Club Directors who have at all times demonstrated their unwavering support and commitment for Jennie had devoted over 10 years of yeomen like service to the junior league and many of us have Junior League in our District. benefited from her knowledge, skill and compassion as she discharged her responsibilities in running our junior league operations. We wish Jennie all the best for the future and congratulate I would also like to call out for special thanks the club volunteers who with their dedication and her on receiving an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for Services to Netball in the 2019 Australia passion allow our game the chance to flourish at the grass roots. Your contribution does not go Day Honours. unrecognised. Through what at times seemed overwhelming adversity, as the winds of discontent blew hard, the Finally, to my fellow Junior League directors, thank you for the honour of leading you. In a difficult mighty black and gold spirit prevailed and we conducted, if not the best, one of the best Grand year you have not shrugged your responsibilities and in fact many of you have risen to the Final weekends of recent times. We then backed that up with a full house at our annual occasion and are making significant contribution to your portfolios. I can't promise 2019 will be presentation night where the Balmain spirit was alive and well. Faith restored, doubters silenced, easier but I can promise it will be rewarding as we execute on our charter to: our ranks of faithful junior club volunteers and our operations staff are ready to take on the “Promote and foster sportsmanship, teamwork, respect and Rugby League skills in a fun and safe opportunities and the adversities that 2019 will no doubt present. environment for all in the community”. As I write this report the Leagues Club's administration is being finalised; whilst this is a sad and Black & Gold Will Never Fold! difficult time for our club as a whole, rest assured the junior league is strong financially. Our major sponsor, PainAway, has recommitted their ongoing sponsorship. Thank you must go to Elias Onwards and upwards to the 2019 Season. Nassar for your long term, unwavering support for junior league in the Balmain District. NSWRL have also increased their support by not only reaffirming the provision of the services of Danielle Kifooti as our local Club Competitions Coordinator but an additional administration position to Richard Kelly support our junior league operations on a day to day basis. I'd like to personally thank David Interim Chairman, Balmain DJRL Trodden (CEO of NSWRL) and Stuart Stanton (NSWRL Community Football Manager) for their ongoing support of the Balmain Junior League during these tough times. At the end of the 2018 season there was great momentum from the Junior League Board to look forward into 2019 and beyond. On Sunday 25th November the Board and key operational staff held a Strategic planning workshop at Leichhardt Oval where we engaged an independent facilitator to help us plan the future of our junior league. Great discussions and debate were undertaken on the day with one of the key outcomes being the agreement of our Charter for junior rugby league in the Balmain district. Our Charter is: “We promote and foster sportsmanship, teamwork, respect and Rugby League skills in a fun and safe environment for all in the community”. Thank you to John Critchley After a dedicated eight seasons as Chairman of the Balmain DJRL, John From the Charter we were able to identify 4 strategic pillar on which to focus our efforts Critchley stepped down from the role during 2018. Ÿ Recruitment Ÿ Retention For over 30 years John has devoted an unwavering commitment to the Ÿ Player Development Five Dock RSL club and Balmain DJRL in many roles. He served over 20 Ÿ Governance years on the Balmain DJRL Board including being Chairman from 2011, while also holding positions on the Life Member Committee, The board has developed action plans for each of these pillars and our monthly board meetings Behaviour Management and Conduct Panel, Constitution Committee, are now designed to make sure we gain traction and accountability in executing this plan.
