The subject is now of unquestionable importance and evidently of great interest to Ophthalmologists, whether they are orbital- palpebral specialists or not. Indeed, errors or delays in the diagnosis of tumor pathologies are relatively common and the consequences can be serious in the case of malignant tumors, especially carcinomas. Swift diagnosis and anatomopathological confirmation will lead to a treatment, discussed in multidisciplinary team meetings, ranging from surgery to radiotherapy. -

Trichoadenoma of Nikolowski, who describe the first cases in 1958, is a rare and benign tumor of the hair follicle. It is well-differentiated and slowly-growing. The clinical appearance of Trichoadenoma (TA) can be similar to basal cell carcinoma or epidermal cyst. Results. We describe a 44-year-old male who was referred for nodular lesion on the upper lip and a TA was diagnosed. Oral examination showed exophytic yellow mass located between mucous membrane of the upper lip and vestibular gingiva, 1.2 per 0.8 cm. Anamnestic data was non-contributory. An excisional biopsy of the lesion was performed. Microscopically, the lesion consisted of multiple keratinous cysts lined with stratified squamous epithelium and intermingled with solid islands of basaloid cells lying within sclerotic stroma. The pathological diagnosis was TA. The surgical wound healed uneventfully. Conclusion. Because the lesion is unique, it is uncertain how aggressive or indolent the tumor might be. Therefore, the microscopical analysis is mandatory. At the best of our knowledge, this is the second case of trichoadenoma of the lip. Histological and immunohistochemical practical studies of canine cutaneous tumors Summary A total of one hundred and fifty-three canine cutaneous tumors were examined and analyzed using the standard haematoxylin-eosin staining method. Additionally, tumors were examined immunohistochemically (41.4%) with antibodies LP34, AE1/AE3, V9 and histochemically (24.8%) with toluidine blue. Epithelial and melanocytic tumors of the skin accounted for 52.3% and mesenchymal tumours constituted 47.7%. All epidermal and follicular tumors demonstrated positive immunostaining for “LP34” antibodies. Fibromas and fibrosarcomas, which were immunohistochemically positive for antibodies “V9”, demonstrated negative immunostaining for antibodies “LP34”. As many as 47.4% of all round cell tumors showed positive staining with toluidine blue. Antibodies “LP34” are helpful for the differential diagnosis of epithelial cells of tumors in canine skin, skin adnexal and subcutaneous tissues. Antibodies “AE1/AE3” could be helpful for detecting metastatic glandular epithelial cells in the skin. -

Acta Vet. Brno 2003, 72: 221-228. The aim of the study is to describe spontaneous tumours in guinea pigs. Twenty neoplasias from 19 guinea pigs were examined histologically. In 15 cases biopsy samples were examined, samples from four animals were collected during autopsy. Except for one, all animals were kept as pets. Skin tumours were diagnosed in five of them. They appeared in different locations - abdomen, plantar side of hind leg, back (in two animals), and rump, and were of different sizes, the largest one was five cm in diameter. All tumours were of follicular origin - two trichofolliculomas, two trichoepitheliomas, one malignant pilomatricoma. The age of affected animals ranged from two to 7.5 years. Tumours of the mammary gland were present in five guinea pigs. Adenocarcinoma was diagnosed in two males, sarcoma of myoepithelial origin was found in one female. Tubular adenoma was present in one two-year- old female, and adenomatous hyperplasia of the mammary gland was observed in another female of the same age. In six guinea pigs, three females and three males, between three and five years of age, there were tumours in subcutaneous tissue. Three were lipomas, in one animal the lipoma was multiple. Liposarcoma was found in one male, myxoid liposarcoma was diagnosed in another one.
