Thanks to the Iron Horse for the awesome cover and artwork. I want to thank No Name Saloon for the back cover and – hey – you gotta go see Gus the camel! And after kissing the camel – have some Twisted Tea and look for Bill at all the big events with his Twisted Tea Wagon. Breakdowns – call Emergency Bike Rescue. They will get you to a mechanic fast. If you are in an accident, call Politis and Matavino – they will take care of all your legal needs. Next – Willie's Tropical Tattoo Old School Chopper Show. Don't bring the kids, and you will have an awesome time. Also, get yourself a great tattoo. Stay out of tents, trailers and kitchens. Stop by Mark's Sports Pub – they treat you like a local and have some of the best prices in town. No Name Saloon also has Saliva and Jack Russell's Great White, among other bands to see and hear. We want to thank Riverfront Park for joining us this year. Check out the Builders Row and the Ultimate Bagger Show. If you are in need for a new or pre-owned Harley – see Freedom Cycles. They will hook you up. And they have Lizard Lick Towing on site. Come and meet them. If you need to get parts, or your Bike needs a little tweaking – go see Crank N Chrome. They will take care of all your needs. Moving on down the road, “come crappy and leave happy” at the Roadside Tavern. Princess Patti has some awesome food and a great band line-up for Bike Week. Ocean Deck – awesome food, great views and the Gas House Gorillas are playing. Now, if you are looking for your Bike to be lit by quality LEDs, not fly-by-night LEDs, go to Custom Lighting efx. They have a real store – right here in town! More Music – on Main Street. Main Street Station is rocking for the entire Bike Week. Check out their schedule. Yeah! Well, if your feet are needing some new boots, Skip's is the place to go. The Beaver Bar - $2 beers, $3 imports – all the time. Come in and set a spell. Enjoy Southern hospitality at its finest, with a great band line-up. Brian Howe of Bad Company, and Fran Cosmo of Boston, along with David Allan Coe, with an appearance with Jake and Elwood – just a little of what is going on at the Iron Horse Saloon. Great White and Vixen are playing at Destination Daytona. Saints & Sinners has music all week long for your listening pleasure. Check out their schedule in the Guide. Pub 44 is now open. Warrant, and Molly Hatchet are playing, and the Flaunt Girls will be there – just to mention a few. Cabbage Patch – Yeah Baby! Cole Slaw Wrestling, Wednesday and Saturday, Bike Show on Tuesday and Baggers on Thursday. Check the schedule. They have $2 beers all day, too. If you are looking for something with a little kick, try Jesse James Bourbon or Michael Ballard's Full Throttle S'loonshine – that will get your heart going! Bulldog Leather on Main Street – Barb has been there since '79 and she can fix just about anything. Also, the Foxhead has been going strong since then, too. They are a real biker bar – worth the drive out of town. Frank's Place up in Ormond by the Sea – nice little ride up to the north of Daytona, with great live music. Now for you art enthusiasts, Destination Daytona is hosting Scott Jacobs. You might want to take some of his paintings home! Thanks to my staff for all the help on the Guide. Thanks to Linda for just about everything, Thunder for the maps, Mike for putting me together, and Jane and Hank for getting me out in print. Thanks to Steven Spoons for the great photography work he has done for us. You can actually plan on what you want to do during your stay in Daytona Beach. Isn’t that cool! And if you to be in the edition of the Bikers Pocket Guide, visit us on our website, BikersPocketGuide.com to look at the archived Guides, and information on how to advertise with us. In closing - my usual speech. Don’t be draggin’ and revving your pipes, ‘cause you’ll get a ticket and free room and board. If you’ve had too much to drink, park your bike and get a taxi home. Think before you drink. Don’t leave your drinks unattended. It’s not the bartender’s job to babysit your drinks. Take care of your bartenders and servers. They work real hard to make your vacation unforget- table. Have a safe and great Bike Week! PS - Lots of love to Ronnie and Robin. ~ Ron Martin CELEBRATING 3 decades of Roots Rockabilly! • THE MUSICAL FEATURES of 2015'S TOP-RANKED COUNTRY SONGS
THE MUSICAL FEATURES OF 2015’s TOP-RANKED COUNTRY SONGS By Mason Taylor Allen Senior Honors Thesis Department of Music University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill April 22, 2016 Approved: Dr. Jocelyn R. Neal, Thesis Advisor Dr. Allen Anderson, Reader Dr. Andrea Bohlman, Reader © 2016 Mason Taylor Allen ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Mason Taylor Allen: The Musical Features of 2015’s Top-Ranked Country Songs Under the direction of Dr. Jocelyn R. Neal The 2015 top-ten country songs analyzed in this study are characterized by the various formats of their song form, harmonies, and lyrics. This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the structure and narratives in sixty-seven songs that summarizes the distinctive features within those domains of contemporary commercial country music. A detailed description of the norm along with identifiable trends emerges. The song form that features most prominently in this repertory includes a verse-chorus-bridge form with three iterations of the chorus, an intro and outro section, and instrumental sections immediately following each chorus. The top-ten country songs have varying degrees of departure from this typical model. Primary features of the harmonies of these top songs include the frequent use of a double-tonic complex, the absence of a 5-1 authentic cadence, the same chord progression throughout the verse, chorus, and bridge, and the use of only two chords throughout the song. Lyrical analyses show that 2015 songs are continuing the traditional themes about romantic attraction, love, heartache, good times and partying, home, family, nostalgia, religion, and inspiration, within the context of small-town country life that this genre has used for years.

  • 2020-06-Artist Spotlight | Big Al and The
Down Home Groovin’ With Big Al and the Heavyweights Times are very challenging right now. There can be no doubt about that. This pandemic is robbing us of our loved ones, the economy is tanked worldwide, once bustling cities now look like ghost-towns, businesses are closing down while many will likely never reopen, jobs are on hold, millions have no income and are in need of food, and to top it all off, we are hunkered down in our homes, wondering when this nightmare will end. Left with only our thoughts, it is all too easy to slip into a deep funk and lose all hope. It is worth remembering, that out of significant pain, some of the best musical genres in the world arose, weaving tales of hardship set to music, that penetrates the depth of our collective souls. The blues originated in the Deep South in the post Civil War era, conveying stories of the pain of slavery and the toll it took on African descendants, while combining African musical traditions, African-American work songs, spirituals, chants, and ballads, as a means of powerful story-telling. Zydeco music is a genre endemic to southwest Louisiana, from primarily French Creole speakers, blending the blues, rhythm and blues, and the indigenous music of Louisiana Creoles and Cajuns. Roots music is a very broad category of music that includes music from the varied origins of American life. It includes bluegrass, old time music, folk music (particularly from Appalachia), Cajun, and Native American music, while serving as a basis for rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz.

  • Pasaporte Americana Us Rails Jaime Wyatt

  • Country Music Entertainer
COUNTRY MUSIC ENTERTAINER Rowdy Johnson is an American Outlaw steeped in tradition and authenticity. Born and raised in Apopka, Florida with a chip on his shoulder and songs in his heart, Rowdy quickly found that he had a gift for expressing himself through lyrics and song. With a name like Rowdy, it’s only fitting, and yes, Rowdy is his real name! Growing up down South with the sounds of so many greats such as Merle Haggard, Hank Wil- liams Jr., Marshall Tucker Band, Johnny Cash and ultimately Waylon Jennings among count- less others, it was easy to find his inspiration and a sense of freedom in music. Never bowing to labels and with the desire to blaze his own path, it's allowed Rowdy to take all his influences and roll them into what Rowdy Johnson music is all about -- com- plete musical freedom. Speaking of Freedom, Rowdy served in United States Navy in his early years and is the voice of the American Military and as well as a strong advocate for his fellow Veterans. Formed in 2007 out of Tucson, Arizona, the Rowdy Johnson Band burst on the scene quickly due to their original songs and sound. On the stages all throughout Arizona, most notably Tombstone, RJB began to spread their wings and hone their craft. In the “Town Too Tough To Die”, RJB became Legend and it didn’t take long for the word to spread. Somewhere between the unmistakable Outlaw sounds of Waylon, Willie and Classic Southern Rock & Honky-Tonk, that’s where you’ll find Rowdy Johnson- carrying on the tradition.

  • Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’S Roaring ‘70S Capsule Bios of Pivotal Artists
Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ‘70s Capsule Bios of Pivotal Artists Kris Kristofferson—Along with Tom T. Hall, John Hartford, and Mickey Newbury, Kristofferson elevated the language of country music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Equally inspired by two key Williams — William Blake and Hank Williams — he was integral in merging the street-level counter-culture with the mainstream. He wrote country classics including “”For the Good Times” and “Sunday Morning Coming Down” as well as Janis Joplin’s rib-rattling rock statement, “Me and Bobby McGee.” He also sang progressive anthems including “Jesus Was a Capricorn.” Willie Nelson — Nelson struggled in the 1960s as he sought to match his songwriting success (“Hello, Walls,” “Crazy”) with progress as an entertainer. Depressed by his inability to do this, he lit out for his native Texas in 1971 and emerged as a uniter of rednecks, hippies, and freaks. In Texas, he found a flowering culture that embraced artistry and eschewed cultural labels. He became, and remains, a Buddha-like figure who is loved and revered by people of varying political and musical perspectives. Waylon Jennings — “It’s the same old tune: fiddle and guitar/ Where do we take it from here?” Waylon sang, in a song that answered those very same questions. Jennings, a Texas native, came to Nashville in the 1960s and was dissatisfied by a glossy “Nashville Sound” that he said fit him “like syrup on sugar.” He fought and won creative freedom and recorded some of the greatest and most distinctive songs in country music history.
