GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION GSA FORM 7122 '(REV. 5-82) NEWS NEWS NEWS CHILDREN'S TELEVISION WORKSHOP WHITE HOUSE CHILDREN'S PARTY TO STAR BIG BIRD AND CAST OF 'SESAME STREET' WASHINGTON -- Television's Big Bird and four of his human co-stars from "Sesame Street" will entertain in the White House Dec. 14 at the invitation of First Lady Betty Ford when she entertains an ex- pected 500 children of the diplomatic corps; The popular TV stars will greet the young White House guests at the annual Holiday party in six languages. Cast members scheduled to perform include Susan (Loretta Long), Maria (Sonia Manzano), David (Northern J. Calloway), Mr. Hooper (Will Lee), plus the world's most beloved 8-foot tall canary, Big Bird, who is played by Carroll Spinney. The cast is well known to the nearly nine million viewers who follow the series in the U.S. on public broadcasting. The Children's Television Workshop, creators of the program, report that the series is also familiar to millions more around the world. It is seen in more than 40 nations and territories on six continents. Special g uest and entertainment for the party will be Sesame Street's "Big Bird, " an eight-foot-tall canary played by Carroll Spinney. "Big Bird"' s supporting cast includes four of his human co-' stars from the television program: Susan (Loretta Long), Maria (Sonia Manz.ano), David (Northern J. Calloway) and Mr. Hr;>oper (Will. Lee). "Sesame Street" is seen by about nine million viewers on public broadcasting. Created by Children's Television Workshop, the educational series for preschool children is approaching its eighth season. ..,. I Approximately : 87 countries will be represented. The guest list was coordinated through THIS, The Hospitality and Information Service, a volunteer organization to help Diplomatic families in Washington, D. C. Also greeting the children will be Santa Claus and clowns from the Baltimore Social Security Administration.
