Senior women are incapable of reproduction, mastering their bodies, or arousing sexual desire in themselves or others. The senior actresses’ I explore in the case studies below insert their performances of self and their everyday lives into the large and complicated discourse of sex, producing a counter-narrative to sexually inactive senior women. Their performances actively embody their sexuality outside the frame of a character. This thesis examines how senior actresses’ performances of sexuality extend a discourse of sexuality imposed on older woman by mass media. These women are the public face of senior women’s sexual agency.

QUT Digital Repository: http://eprints.qut.edu.au/ McKee, Alan (2004) Views On Happiness In The Television Series Ally Mcbeal: The Philosophy Of David E. Kelley. Journal of Happiness Studies 5(4):pp. 385- 411. © Copyright 2004 Springer The original publication is available at SpringerLink http://www.springerlink.com 1 Views on happiness in the television series Ally McBeal: the philosophy of David E Kelley Alan McKee Film and Television Queensland University of Technology Kelvin Grove QLD 4059 Australia [email protected] 2 Abstract This article contributes to our understanding of popular thinking about happiness by exploring the work of David E Kelley, the creator of the television program Ally McBeal and an important philosopher of happiness. Kelley's major points are as follows. He is more ambivalent than is generally the case in popular philosophy about many of the traditional sources of happiness. In regard to the maxim that money can't buy happiness he gives space to characters who assert that there is a relationship between material comfort and happiness, as well as to those that claim the opposite position. He is similarly ambivalent about the relationship between loving relationships and happiness; and friendships and happiness. In relation to these points Kelley is surprisingly principled in citing the sources that he draws upon in his thinking (through intertextual references to genres and texts that have explored these points before him). His most original and interesting contributions to popular discussions of the nature of happiness are twofold. The first is his suggestion that there is a lot to be said for false consciousness.

  • Debbie Reynolds-Carrie Fisher, Book Release News, March 2018
NEW , S CANDALOUS , & H OT , FOR MOTHER ’S DAY HOLLYWOOD NEWS ABOUT A CELEBRITY EXPOSÉ THAT UNPACKS THE MOST FAMOUS MOTHER -D AUGHTER SHOWBIZ TEAM IN AMERICA . Blood Moon Productions proudly announces the availability, on Mother’s Day [May 13, 2018] in bookstores everywhere, of a hot new double biography unlike anything ever pub - lished before. It’s history’s first comprehensive, unauthorized overview of the greatest mother-daughter act in showbiz history, Debbie Reynolds (“hard as nails and with more balls than any five guys I’ve ever known”) and her talented, often traumatized daughter, Carrie Fisher ("one of the smartest, hippest chicks in Hollywood"). Evolving for decades under the unrelenting glare of public scrutiny, each became a world-class symbol of the social and cinematic tastes that prevailed during their heydays as celebrity icons in Hollywood. Now, for the first time, their thousands of fans can read about the combative but ferociously loyal relationship of the “boop-boop-a-doop” girl with her intergalactic STAR WARS daughter, Princess Leia, and their iron-willed strength during their “true grit” battles to out-race changing tastes in Hollywood. According to its co-author and publisher, Danforth Prince, “We’ve defined this as the ulti - mate conversation-starter for savvy matriarchs transmitting lifestyle advice to their daugh - ters or granddaughters. It’s a Mother’s Day celebration of the ties that bind (and sometimes torment) different generations of inter-related women, each navigating their way through the shifting currents of pop culture.” Loaded with never-before published revelations about “who was doing what to whom” during the final gasps of Golden Age Hol - lywood, it’s a one-of-a-kind, All-American saga about the price of glamour, career-related pain, family anguish, romantic betrayals, lingering guilt, and the volcanic shifts that affected a scrappy, wryly funny mother-daughter team—and everyone else who ever loved the movies.

DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME: Why You Should Never Emulate TV Lawyers A One-Hour Webinar Covering: Legal Ethics Presented by: Sean Carter CA Bar# 200356 OVERVIEW Lawyers on our favorite legal dramas - Boston Legal, The Practice, L.A. Law, Ally McBeal, Suits – often act in ways that would cause significant trouble for actual lawyers. In this multimedia webinar, legal humorist Sean Carter will demonstrate some of the worst of TV lawyer behavior through short (30-60 second) video clips from these shows. After each video snippet, he will discuss the precise rule violated and what the lawyer should have done to avoid the ethical violation. While these examples will provide for a more engaging experience for the lawyer attendee, they will also serve as a reminder that our clients are watching these same programs. As a result, they are very often developing an unrealistic view of the role of an attorney and the tactics available to that attorney in the furtherance of the client’s cause. As a result, this webinar will serve as a useful reminder for each attorney to manage the client’s expectations by having candid conversations detailing just what the lawyer can (and more importantly, can NOT) do in the course of the representation. TIMED AGENDA DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME (LEGAL ETHICS) 0:00-0:05 Introduction A. The power and influence of television 1. Legal dramas affect client perceptions 2. INTRODUCTION Not all goodbyes are the same. They reside along a spectrum from "[s]o long, it's been good to know yuh," 2 all the way down to "goodbye and good riddance." It may be a function of the emotional power of Ally McBeal that I did not know what kind of goodbye to give Ally when I sat down to write this article. But I suspected that its goodbye would fall somewhere closer to one of the extremes than to the tepid "so long" middle. During its five-year run,3 Ally generated an unusually high level of emotional response. It is not every television show that makes the cover of Time magazine.4 It is not every television show that is made the poster child for the death of feminism.

Among them are works by one of Michigan City’s famous Tresidents, Robert Wadsworth Grafton. Calling our city home for most of his life, Grafton built his art studio here and created some of his more noteworthy works here, sometimes using neighbors as subjects. At the time of his death in 1936, he was the only Michigan City person mentioned in Who’s Who In America, a biographical dictionary of notable men and women. Grafton is buried alongside his wife, Elinda, at Greenwood Cemetery. During his lifetime, he created many portraits and landscapes that refl ected his impression of the world. Perhaps none is so dear to so many here as the mural that hung for more than 50 years in the Elston High School study hall. The late, revered journalist Henry Lange wrote in a News-Dis- patch column dated March 31, 1979, “As a member of the Elston Senior High School class of 1957, I spent many hours in the study hall.
