Received: 7 April 2020; Accepted: 19 May 2020; Published: 23 May 2020 Abstract: The community composition of decapods associated with subtidal tropical seagrass meadows was analyzed in a pristine reef lagoon on the Mexican Caribbean coast in the summer of 1995 and winter of 1998. The macrophyte community was dominated by Thalassia testudinum followed by Syringodium filiforme, with interspersed rhyzophytic macroalgae and large patches of drift algae. In each season, 10 one-min trawls were made with an epibenthic sled (mesh aperture 1 mm) during the day and 10 during the night on each of five sites. In all, 53,211 decapods belonging to 119 species were collected. The most diverse taxa were Brachyura and Caridea, but the most abundant were Caridea and Anomura. Dominance was high, with three species (Latreutes fucorum, Cuapetes americanus, and Thor manningi) accounting for almost 50% of individuals, and 10 species accounting for nearly 90% of individuals. There was great similarity in community composition and ecological indices between seasons, but significantly more individuals and species in night versus day samples. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Five species of the hippolytid shrimp genus Lebbeus White, 1847 are reported from various deep-water hydrothermal vent sites in the Pacific Ocean: L. laurentae Wicksten, 2010 from the East Pacific Rise 13°N; L. wera Ahyong, 2009 from the Brothers Seamount, Kermadec Ridge, New Zealand; L. pacmanus sp. nov. from the Manus Basin, Bismarck Sea; L. shinkaiae sp. nov. from the Okinawa Trough, Japan; and L. thermophilus sp. nov. from the Manus and Lau basins, south- western Pacific. Lebbeus laurentae is fully redescribed because the original and subsequent descriptions are not totally detailed. Differentiating characters among the three new species and close allies are discussed. Previous records of Leb- beus species from hydrothermal vents are reviewed. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new peppermint shrimp species, Lysmata jundalini sp. nov., is described based on five specimens collected in shallow subtidal waters on Enrique Reef at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Isla, Magueyes Laboratories. Lysmata jund- alini sp. nov. was identified from fresh material collected at the reef crest and back reef among coral rubble in June 2005 and April 2009. The new species is most closely related to the Atlantic Lysmata intermedia and eastern Pacific L. holthu- isi. It can be readily distinguished from all those in the genus Lysmata by its color pattern, the presence of a well developed accessory branch, the number of free vs. fused segments of the accessory branch, the number of carpal segments of the second pereiopod and well developed pterygostomian tooth. ABSTRACT Recent additions to the pontoniine shrimp fauna of Australia are reviewed and data are provided on seven species not previously known from Australia: Onycocaris spinosa Fujino and Miyake, Periclimenes mahei Bruce, Platypontonia brevirostris (Miers), Pontonia stylirostris Holthuis, Tuleariocaris holthuisi Hipeau-Jacquotte, Vir orientalis (Dana) and V. philippinensis Bruce and Svoboda. Recent nomencla- tural amendments are included. The number of species presently known is increased from 136 to 168 and their distributions and zoogeography are discussed. BULLETIN OF MARINE SCIENCE, 37(3): 893-904,1985 CORAL REEF PAPER TWO MORE SIBLING SPECIES OF ALPHEID SHRIMPS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CARIBBEAN SEA ANEMONES BARTHOLOMEA ANNULATA AND HETERACTIS LUCIDA Nancy Knowlton and Brian D. Keller ABSTRACT We have described two new species of snapping shrimp, Alpheus polystictus and A. ro- quensis. The new species form part of a complex of four sibling species associated with Caribbean sea anemones, the others being the well-known A. armatus Rathbun, 1900 and the recently describedA. immaculatus Knowlton and Keller, 1983. Alpheus roquensis is found with the anemone Heteractis lucida. while the other three shrimps live with Bartholomea annulata. In laboratory choice experiments, each shrimp species prefers the species of an em- one with which it is typically found in the field, although each can shelter under the other species of anemone. All four species are extremely similar morphologically, being distin- guished largely on the basis of color pattern. The validity of the species is confirmed by the total absence of interbreeding; heterospecific male-female pairs are never found in the field, and it is impossible to force pairings between species in the laboratory. Alpheus polystictus is rare in Jamaica and Haiti, while in Venezuela it is sometimes the dominant species to depths of 10 m. In the areas examined, it has always occurred with at least one of the other two Bartholomea associates. The geographic distribution of A. roquensis is more limited, as there are no reports of alpheids associated with Heteractis lucida, and none has been found with this anemone in Jamaica.
