Bonnier Books Ltd, United Kingdom, 2014. Hardback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. Legendary Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna s intensity and commitment earned him a reputation as one of the biggest names in world sport. In his brief, fiery Grand Prix career, he won 41 races and three world championships. But it was his belief, passion and raw speed that made him a global superstar - and, at times, a dramatically controversial figure. Senna felt he was the best - and his results certainly backed up his belief. But the Brazilian s rivals - most notably his McLaren team-mate, Alain Prost - were aware that his self-belief could be contentious; his utter refusal to be beaten occasionally led to colourful consequences on the track. Senna s death at the San Marino Grand Prix on 1 May 1994 stunned the world. Many books have been written since that freak accident at the wheel of a Williams 20 years ago, but none captures the warm relationship he had with McLaren, the team with which he enjoyed his greatest successes.

Now you are in high-level business, have you discovered that hardness that might have been lacking in the past? ItT may have looked so because I never had the most competitive car. But if you look closely at my results, most of the time I have beaten my teammates, whoever they were. So, I don't think that I lacked a ruthless streak, I just had no opportunity. • Mclaren Will Be Featured Marque for 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT: Barby MacGowan, Media Pro Int'l for General Racing, Ltd. , McLaren Will be Featured Marque for 2011 SONOMA, CALIF. (June 6, 2010) – At the conclusion of an epic first-annual Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival , organizer General Racing, Ltd . announced that McLaren will be the event’s featured marque for the event’s second edition in 2011. The legendary name has graced the halls of motorsports since its famed founder Bruce McLaren of New Zealand founded the McLaren racing team in 1963. “McLaren, like Ferrari and Porsche and other great names in motorsports, created the bloodlines that we worship today in historic automobile racing,” said General Racing’s President Steve Earle, who for four decades has devoted his life to organizing historic car racing events and is the originator of the Wine Country Classic that preceded the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival for 24 years. “Choosing McLaren as our marque means we will pay special tribute to the name, the teams, and the cars that McLaren has produced in the past and will produce in the future, adding another dimension of enjoyment for both competitors and spectators.” The 2010 Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, held at Infineon Raceway June 5-6, hosted 375 historic race cars, some dating as far back as 1915, in a series of “time capsule” races over the weekend of June 5-6. “These beautiful machines on the track combined with the Sonoma wine country experience makes our historic car weekend unlike anything else on our schedule,” said Infineon Raceway President and General Manager Steve Page.

  • Rush No Mistake About It, Director Ron Howardʼs “Rush” Is a Pulse
Rush No mistake about it, director Ron Howardʼs “Rush” is a pulse-pounding narrative about what is perhaps the greatest season in Formula One auto racing: the year-long showdown in 1976 between the Austrian champion Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and the British contender James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth). It was a thrilling contest contended by two men who could hardly be more different and whose natures are well captured by Howard and company (now in cinemas,.). Both the earnest Lauda and the playboy Hunt come from wealth and want to break away from their familiesʼ traditions of business (Lauda) and well-heeled aristocracy (Hunt) to race fast cars. Otherwise, they have nothing in common. Laudaʼs attraction to vehicles is coolly technical and hands-on—heʼs drawn by the essence of their machinery. Even in his scary business, he doesnʼt want to take risks. Huntʼs attraction to racing is openly intuitive and adrenalin-laced—heʼs hooked on winning and heedless in his car. Lauda is appropriately contained, a bit shriveled; colleagues say he looks rat-like. Hunt is a prototype playboy, a long-haired Adonis with a yen for the ladies, the bottle, and the cusp of danger. The core of the film traces the dramatic 1976 season in which Lauda takes a commanding points lead, only to suffer a horrendous crash at the German Grand Prix then pull off an amazing physical recovery (which includes a horrific scene of Laudaʼs getting his lungs vacuumed!) to come back to compete in the chase. Hunt, in the meantime, gains steadily on Lauda in the points race, and the gripping finale comes down to the last test of the season, a rain-troubled race in the Grand Prix of Japan.

  • Ayrton Senna
AYRTON SENNA Ayrton Senna is, perhaps, the greatest racing driver ever to have walked the planet. He was certainly the best qualifier of all time in Formula One racing, obtaining twice as many poles as the great Alain Prost . He was in pole position a remarkable four times out of every ten races alltogether 65 times which even Schumacher has not beaten yet. It was in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 21.3.1960 that Ayrton Senna Da Silva was born. His parents were wealthy, especially by Brazilian standards, so he did not have to experience many of the hardships associated with growing up there (his father was a thriving businessman and landowner). As a young boy, he had a reputation for being clumsy, which was later diagnosed as a motor coordination deficiency, but his father could see the racing driver in him, and bought him his first go-kart at the age of four. Young Ayrton showed remarkable dedication to the machine, both in racing it, and its maintenance. His father rewarded him by buying him another better kart, and at the age of eight, Ayrton Senna competed in his first race. This time also saw the emergence of the great Brazilian driver Emerson Fittipaldi, and it was he along with Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart, that proved to be a great inspiration for the young Senna. When Ayrton was thirteen he was allowed to enter kart races, and promptly won his first one in style, against some prodigious local talent. 1976 the great Brazilian won the South American Kart Championships, and by 1980 had finished second in two consecutive World Kart Championships, virtually unheard of for a driver with such limited experience.

  • World's Oldest Active Rally Navigator Takes Part in New Zealand Haka
World’s oldest active rally navigator takes part in New Zealand Haka Classic Rally at age 98 Submitted by: Insight Marketing Concepts Thursday, 27 October 2016 Guinness World Record holder navigates for son, 73-year old ex-Formula 1 McLaren team manager, Alastair Caldwell in Oct/Nov Haka Rally. Dorothy Caldwell, who lives in Flagstaff, New Zealand, and is the Guinness World Record holder as the world’s oldest active rally navigator, is to take to the roads again in the New Zealand Haka Classic Rally, a 5,354 kilometer classic car competition on the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The rally starts in Auckland on October 30th and heads to Wanaka before coming back to Auckland again, ending on 25th November. 98-year old Dorothy will be navigating for her son, Alastair Caldwell in his 1963 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III. The same team and car took part in the TransAm rally from New York to Alaska four years ago and Dorothy won the “Spirit of the Rally” award and her team came 5th overall. Alastair Caldwell grew up in New Zealand and in 1966 attended the Tasman series racing, where the mechanics encouraged him to come to England to work in motor racing. He did so and became a notable part of the multi-national McLaren Formula 1 racing team. In the 1970s he became team manager, managing world champions such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet and James Hunt. In fact, this week, October 24th, marks the 40th anniversary of James Hunt winning the F1 World Championship at the Japanese Grand Prix in 1976, with Alastair as team manager, an event immortalized in the 2013 movie, Rush.
