STATE OF LEGISLATURE OF ERIE COUNTY Buffalo, New York, march 23, 2017

Honoring and congratulating the on winning the as champions of the national women’s hockey league

I HEREBY CERTIFY, that at the regular session of the Legislature of Erie County, held in the Legislative Chambers of “Old County Hall,” in the City of Buffalo, on the 23nd day of March, 2017, a proclamation was adopted, of which the following is a true copy:

WHEREAS, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay tribute to organizations that enrich their communities, and attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize the Buffalo Beauts; and

WHEREAS, the Buffalo Beauts earned a 3-2 win over the in the in Lowell, Mass., Sunday, March 19, 2017 to win the second Isobel Cup as Champions of the National Women's Hockey League; and

WHEREAS, the National Women's Hockey League is an American women's professional league established in 2015, and is comprised of four teams: the Buffalo Beauts, Boston Pride, New York Riveters and Connecticut Whale; and

WHEREAS, the league's championship trophy is the Isobel Cup, named after Lady Isobel Gathorne-Hardy, the daughter of Frederick Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, and donor of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Trophy; and

WHEREAS, the Buffalo Beauts received goals from, , Emily Janiga, and Corinne Buie – the game winner - to defeat the heavy favorite #1 seed Boston Pride who had a 16-1 record in the regular season; and

WHEREAS, the Buffalo Beauts had an outstanding individual effort from and MVP of the championship game, Brianne McLaughlin who had 60 saves to lead the Beauts to victory.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED, that the Erie County Legislature pause in its deliberations to Honor and Congratulate the Buffalo Beauts on winning the Isobel Cup, and the Championship of the National Women’s Hockey League.
