Men senast i går kväll kom ett bakslag då dessa små blommor blev helt översnöade, men tåliga som de är, så tycks de ha klarat pärsen. Fettisdagen passerades i veckan. Record-Breaking Snow in January Record Snowfall Blankets Connecticut
Record-Breaking Snow in January Record Snowfall Blankets Connecticut HARTFORD (01/13/2011) -- Overnight and throughout the day on January 12th, winter storm Benedict dropped 12 to 24 inches of snow, closing many of the state's businesses and keeping snowplow crews busy throughout. The 25 inches of snow recorded at Bradley International Airport set a new record for accumulation within a 24 hour period. According to meteorologist Scot Haney at WFSB, up to 30" fell in Staffordville, with 28" in both Woodbury and New Fairfield. Danbury Mayor Mark D. Boughton tweeted that the city had received just over 2 feet of snow. Media outlets announced over 1000 school and business closings on Wednesday, and many schools remained closed Thursday as snow removal efforts continued. State Governor Dannel P. Malloy declared a Civil Preparedness Emergency Tuesday as the storm approached. Connecticut saw a record-breaking snow fall this month and is expected to see more Wednesday as temperatures drop across the state, according to Fox meteorologist Rachel Frank. The state, which has already seen more than 43 inches of snow this month, may get slammed with another 4 to 10 inches of snow Wednesday evening, Frank said. The National Weather Service, which has issued a winter storm watch for the state, is predicting more than 6 inches of snow. "We'll have to keep a close eye on it," Frank said of the storm, expected to hit around 4 p.m. Wednesday the 26th and last into Thursday morning. Fox CT meteorologist Joe Fury added that January 2011 could be the snowiest month ever recorded, surpassing December 1945's snowfall of 45.3 inches. -
Submission Is Made on Behalf of Radio KLFM a Community Radio Broadcaster Located in Bendigo Victoria
SENATE STANDING COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT, COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND THE ARTS Inquiry into the Broadcasting services Amendment (Media Ownership) Bill 2006 & related bills Dear Secretary We submit the following for consideration by the committee as it considers amendments to the Broadcasting services Act. This submission is made on behalf of Radio KLFM a Community Radio Broadcaster located in Bendigo Victoria. The submission has also been submitted to the House of representatives enquiry into Community Radio but we feel may also be relevant to the current Senate enquiry . I have attached a copy of our submission (plus the three appendices) to this email and listed some of the main points below for your information. Community Radio is ideally placed to provide local content as it must by definition be locally owned and operated. One of the major problems that we see is that Community Radio is limited in its ability to properly serve its local community and provide local content by the current restrictions on advertising contained in the Broadcasting Services Act. We thus submit that consideration be given to removing the current restrictions on Community Radio and Television broadcasting advertisements so that these services can better serve their local communities and help to provide diversity and local content. Communty Radio is not allowed to broadcast advertisements, but can broadcast up to 5 minutes of sponsership announcements per hour. We believe that this not only restricts Community Radio's access to finance, but also restricts our ability to interact with and promote local business and our local community. Particular problems occur in the area of Outside Broadcasts and in the definition of advertising/sponsorship which have many grey areas. -
