In many markets, energy policies are being considered to respond to the need to be more energy efficient and reduce emissions driving transformation of the sector. In mature markets such as Australia, ageing thermal generation assets are typically being replaced by different technologies including integrated renewables and energy storage. Operation and resiliency of the transmission and distribution networks will continue to be challenged by the growing levels of variable renewable energy. The impacts from behind the meter, electric transportation and other penetrative technologies also need to be managed and integrated into network operation to ensure and enhance power system stability. Smart grid and microgrid technologies are increasingly being be deployed to manage this impact. Jacobs power consultancy focuses on working with clients to assist in the development and implementation of pathways to a zero carbon future. Jacobs play a leading role helping our clients respond to the demands of the changing market. They regularly advise government, regulatory bodies, investors, developers and utilities. Jacobs developed the underlying model for the Finkel review of the reliability and security of electricity supply. As Managing Director and CEO, she also serves on the Energy Security Board. Audrey has extensive experience in the public, private and not-for profit energy and electricity sectors in the United States, most recently having held the positions of Commissioner and Chair of the New York State Public Service Commission (NYPSC). During her tenure at the NYPSC, she led the design and implementation of extensive regulatory and retail market changes to modernise and transform the state’s electricity industry. A recognised national and international expert in energy policy, markets and Smart Grid innovation, Audrey is a Founder and past President and Chief Executive Officer of Viridity Energy, Inc. Previously, Audrey was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of PJM, a regional transmission operator of the power grid and wholesale power market across the eastern United States. Audrey also held legal and executive positions at Xcel Energy, served as General Counsel to the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, and was Special Assistant Attorney General in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office. During her career, she has served on numerous industry-related and non-profit boards, and currently serves on the CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency) Energy Advisory Committee and the Melbourne Energy Institute’s Advisory Board. They covered a wide range of issues that stand between the Australian community and achievement of the CoAG Energy Council’s recently-announced goal of integrating energy and climate change policies to deliver secure supply and the lowest possible prices. Not surprisingly, much of the speakers’ focus - and the audience’s questions - was on the drivers for change and the need for a durable, bipartisan approach to settle investors’ nerves and to encourage lenders’ support for new developments. One of the most interesting questions was posed by speaker Roberto Bocco, Head of Energy Industries at the World Economic Forum. “We are witnessing a continuous trend for decarbonisation,” he said, “but what if the future of energy is different from what we are expecting?” Diversity among leading nations pursuing the transformation of electricity supply, he pointed out, highlights that there is no single pathway to a more affordable, sustainable and secure energy system. The capacity of the Australian Energy Week presenters to pursue the prospects of diversity and the differing pathways to our national energy future was, I think, the major strength of the conference - which will be held again in Melbourne in May next year. Feedback from the attendees thronging the Albert Park venue for the event repeatedly pointed to the benefits of being exposed to a wide range of views in an environment notable for calm discussion - and, having organised and participated in a multitude of conferences over the past 35 years, I was struck by the high level of networking I saw around me.

AND CEO’S REPORT Operating in a competitive and dynamic environment, we delivered higher underlying earnings and dividends as our electricity sales business continued to grow strongly, our generation business delivered another year of solid contribution and our gas business delivered its first operating profits. We also participated in the sale process for the assets of Macquarie Generation and established a new electricity metering business, which will grow and further diversify our earnings. HIGHER EARNINGS Our strong performance continued in FY 2014 with underlying NPAT1 32% higher than FY 2013 when a number of significant items2 are excluded.

The gas reticulation networks serve Geraldton, Bunbury, Busselton, Harvey, Pinjarra, Brunswick Junction, Capel and the Perth greater metropolitan area, including Mandurah. These combined networks extend greater than 13,000km, connecting about 683,000 end users to natural gas. ATCO Gas Australia’s Gas Distribution System (GDS), covered by the Access Arrangement, operates in the Coastal gas supply areas under the conditions defined in Gas Distribution Licence 8 (GDL8). Natural Gas (NG) is distributed through the GDS from the Dampier Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) and APA Group’s (APA) Parmelia gas transmission pipeline via gate stations and Pressure Regulation Stations (PRS), designed to limit pressures in the GDS to within the Maximum Allowable Operating Pressures (MAOP) for each section of the various lower pressure networks.
