These “dips” in the road have occurred where the road rests above water inlets and outlets. Some of these sec- tions of road have sunk slightly, causing the dips, Bly said. As many drivers know, this settling has caused these segments of the road to act like ramps when a vehicle hits it - causing some drivers to go slightly airborne and subsequently doing damage to vehicles when they land. In fact, the Mason County Commission recently heard a complaint that owners of large tractor trailer companies were telling their drivers to avoid the new road and use old US 35 to avoid damaging those large rigs. One of the complaints was from a resident whose mother-in-law was nearly involved in an accident with one of those tractor trailers traveling the old road. This information was par- ticularly troubling to the members of the commission who went to the division of highways with their concerns. This week, Mason County Commission President Rick Handley said he’d spoken with Commissioner of High- ways Paul Mattox about the issue with Mattox telling him repairs had already begun in Putnam County and would continue north into Mason County. Bly said the repairs will include grinding down the road to make it more level and then covering it with a new coat- ing of blacktop. No time frame for these repairs was avail- able at press time but as Bly confirmed, repairs have begun. Local briefs City offices closed alarms at noon, May 31.
