The drivers, along with representatives from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IndyCar and Racing For Kids, will hand out baseball caps and Mattel die-cast cars, as well as sign autographs and pose for photos. BACKGROUND: Racing For Kids is a Detroit-based national charity founded in 1989. Racing For Kids uses the increasing popularity of motorsports to focus public awareness and funding on the health care needs of children. Racing For Kids has visited more than 22,000 children in more than 450 children’s hospitals in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Australia. It has raised more than $5.2 million for the hospitals visited and other children’s health institutions. Ed Carpenter, the stepson of Indy Racing League founder Tony George, has been racing since he was 8 years old. He made his IndyCar Series debut in 2003 at Chicagoland and made racing history when he became the first driver to compete in an Indy Lights Series event and an IndyCar series event on the same weekend. Most recently, he drove the #20 car for Panther Racing in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series. Alex Tagliani caught the racing bug at age 10 when his paternal grandfather introduced him to karting while on a trip to Italy. He’s been racing ever since. He made his IndyCar Series debut in 2008. A part-time competitor in 2008 and 2009, he joined the IZOD IndyCar Series full time for the 2010 season, where he finished 13th in the series championship. Justin Wilson began racing as a teenager in England, becoming the first 16- year-old to win a British auto race. His career with the IndyCar Series began in 2008.
