Community Development Coordinator (Term position)

The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is the Tribal Council for the eight member communities of the Okanagan Nation which includes , , Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands, Indian Band, , and the Confederated Tribes of the Colville. The ONA’s mandate is to advance, assert, support and preserve Okanagan Nation title and rights. Further, the ONA is charged with providing members with a forum to discuss and form positions on areas of common concern.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The ONA is seeking to employ an enthusiastic individual to work as Community Development Coordinator (CDC) within the Wellness Department. As CDC you will work directly with the Child and Family Lead, to provide assistance and technical support in all planning stages of the C&F framework and program developments, this will include work shop design, development and delivery, of training modules of the FDM. The position will be involved in community engagement processes and capacity building that support and promote working partnerships with all Aboriginal community organizations, and will support the facilitation of community events or projects, and will promote the Child and Family planning and FDM initiative’s roll out in the community.

Qualifications and Experience: • Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline such as Indigenous Studies, Education, Community development or bachelor of social work, or equivalent. • Minimum of 4 years work experience in community development with practical experience in program development, community engagement and experience working for a first nation organization. • Energetic and self motivated with demonstrated written, oral and presentations skills. • Working knowledge of computer software including ms office (word, excel, access and PowerPoint). • A reliable vehicle and a valid class 5 driver’s license. • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings and weekends. • Aboriginal ancestry preferred.
