CORONAVIRUS, FLU, COLD? As the number of coronavirus cases rise, some key differences set it apart from the seasonal flu and the common cold —mainly the intensity of the symptoms and the recovery period. This is a guide to identifying the differences in the three conditions. All three, however, are spread by air-borne respiratory droplets and contaminated surfaces. CORONAVIRUS SEASONAL FLU COMMON COLD Onset: Sudden Onset: Abrupt Onset: Gradual Symptoms Symptoms Symptoms • Fever • Fever • Sneezing • Dry Cough • Dry Cough • Sore throat • Muscle ache • Muscle ache • Runny or stuffy nose • Fatigue • Fatigue Less Common Symptoms • Headache Less Common Symptoms • Low grade fever • Headache • Sore throat • Muscle or body ache • Coughing up blood • Runny or stuffy nose • Headache • Diarrhea Less Common Symptoms • Fatigue • Vomiting Incubation: • Diarrhea 12-14 days WHAT THIS If you have a stuffy/runny nose or are sneezing, Complications MEANS you likely DO NOT have corona virus

The rapid spread of COVID-19, or Coronavirus, has seemingly in- filtrated every aspect of life over the last week and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Whether it is local or profes- sional, the sports world is no ex- ception. The NBA was the first major organization to take dras- tic steps when they paused all activities indefinitely Wednesday after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz tested positive for Corona- virus. On Thursday, a number of other sporting organizations fol- lowed suit and suspended or can- celed their current or upcoming activities as a result of the pan- demic. Most notably, the NCAA canceled all spring sporting activ- ities, including March Madness, while the MLB canceled spring training and suspended the start of their regular season until at least mid-May. It is an unprecedented time in sports as every level of competi- tion is impacted and numerous organizations across the world scramble to find safe and rational solutions. Madisonville Little League held a clinic with multiple coaches for youth in the com- munity at Lake Madison Park Saturday to raise interest in their softball program. The clinic con- sisted of drills centered around the fundamentals of the game as well as scrimmaging. “We are just trying to encour- age the girls and get them to learn some things,” said Stephanee Garrett, a member of the Madi- sonville Little League Board who was responsible for organizing the clinic. “We want them to love being out here and build up some confidence and hopefully build back up the program.” Interest in softball has already seen growth as the league is up to three teams this season, an up- grade from a year ago. They have also been working on growing their t-ball program. “Seeing the community come together and teach our girls is truly amazing,” said Garrett. The league would like to offer a special thanks to Randy and Ken- dall Campbell, Jose and Sara Na- cianceno, James Stanton, Tiffany Hickman and Sonnye Knight for Campbell Atkins assisting with the clinic Saturday.
