The Quebec Pond and their convention committee were very gracious hosts, and we were all BLUE GOOSE TO HONK IN PROVIDENCE so impressed with the beauty of the Chateau Frontenac and Quebec City. POND HOLDS SEPT 17 GOLF OUTING The Hartford Pond made up about 10% of the convention’s attendees! Making the trip were Kevin Brady, Jerry and Joanne POND ANNOUNCES MARCH 1 HOCKEY Hale, Jon Hale, Wendy and Mike Hubbard and their two GAME children, Dean Jackson, Lisa and Bill Mullen, Bob Partridge, Ed Phinney, Doug Phinney, Dan and Sue Rich, and Theresa and I. QUEBEC CITY CONVENTION WRAP-UP After we returned, your officers met to start the planning process of the year. Our first event was the September golf outing, which HARTFORD GANDERS ATTEND BAY STATE turned out to be a very successful day. We had 92 golfers during the afternoon, and 25 more folks joined us for dinner. As always, ALL INDUSTRY Glastonbury Hills wasa great host, and our Golf Chairman Bob Partridge turned in his usual outstanding performance. NORTH CAROLINA PLRB BLUE GOOSE We’re looking forward to another great year of Character, PARTY Charity and Fellowship from our events. Hope you can join us for as much of our schedule as possible. [email protected] Pond Chaplain, Past Most Loyal Blue Goose Rhode Island Organizational Grand Gander, Grand Nest Historian Jerry Hale, PMLG - 203 333 6200 Meeting Slated for January [email protected] Hartford Ponderings Editor In an effort to add more members to Pond Historian the Honorable Order, and strengthen Deputy Most Loyal Grand Gander the Eastern Region , we are exploring Dan Rich, PMLG - 860 841 7833 the possibility of cre ating a Blue [email protected] Goose presence in the Ocean State. Australian Gander-At-Large Leo Fluitsma As we go to press, an organizational [email protected] meeting is being planned for January 2014 somewhere in the metro Providence area. If all goes as planned, we can identify enough interested parties to start a “Providence Puddle” as members of the Hartford Pond. They would select their own Puddle Officers and start planning their own events and programs. If their numbers reach a sufficient level, they would split off from Hartford and become a Pond in their own right. If you know of anyone in Rhode Island who might be interested in getting this off the ground, please have them contact Dan Rich or Jerry Hale. Blue Goose has been seeing a resurgence of expansion – in Ohio, Texas, Florida, Northern Virginia, North Carolina, and Central Missouri. We hope to add Rhode Island to the list. 3 Pond Holds September Golf Outing Future Grand Nest Ninety - two golfers hit the links at Glastonbury Country Conventions Club on September 17 as the Pond held its annual Golf Outing. The Pond is grateful to the many Hole Sponsors, Deluxe Hole Sponsors, and Special Event Sponsors that help make the day so successful. We have listed all of our sponsors in this newsletter, as well as the Golf Award Winners. As our golfers came off the course for Happy Hour and hors d’oeuvres we filed into the dining room where an additional 25 joined us for dinner After dinner, Golf Chairman Bob Partridge and MLG Greg Buonocore thanked Glastonbury Hills for a great day and a August 2014 Salt Lake City, Utah great meal, and also thanked all of the day’s sponsors. Bob . Little America Hotel called upon the Dry Cleaner by Val to draw the winner of their Celtic game tickets, and the prize was won by John Clark. Summer 2015 Convention Cruise . to Bermuda The golf awards, door prizes and 50/50 drawing rounded out the Summer 2016 St. Louis, MO evening’s agenda. All tickets HOLIDAY PARTY are $21. 5:30pm – 8:30pm Annual Toy Drive Hawthorne Inn Blue Goose Holds Grand Nest Convention in 2421 Berlin Turnpike Berlin, CT Quebec City, Quebec 2/13/2014 185 Ganders, spouses and All Industry Night guests, including 10 children from Aquaturf Club across the US and Canada Plantsville, CT journeyed to Quebec City to attend the 107th Blue Goose 3/1/2014 Grand Nest Convention from July Wolfpack Hockey Game 9-12, 2013. The convention was XL Center held at the spectacular Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in the heart of Hartford, CT Old Quebec - within easy walking distance of hundreds of shops, restaurants, and attractions. 3/12/2014 St. Patrick’s Night Party Blackstone Pub Tuesday July 9, 2013 Southington, CT The Convention kicked off with a short walk down Rue Saint-Louis for a April 4-6, 2014 spectacular Welcome Party at the Quebec Garrison Club. Grand Nest Mid-Year Easter Regional Mid-Yr The Garrison Club was established by Canadian militia officers way back Newark Airport Marriott in 1879. It's a private club for meetings and get-togethers of military and Newark, NJ social groups. The military origins of the Club are represented on its grounds by pyramids of cannon balls and an old cannon. April TBD Insurance Commissioners Our group was set up outside under a tent, and everything was just Luncheon perfect. We had a choice of duck, pork, salmon or tilapia for our entrees, Chowderpot Restaurant and the dinners were cooked to order on outdoor grills. Music and dancing followed dinner, and it was a great way to catch up with old May 21, 2014 friends and start the convention. Annual Meeting Location TBD 5 Wednesday July 10, 2013 After a full breakfast, the 107th Grand Nest Meeting was opened by MLGG Guy Charron as he introduced the head table, Grand Nest officers, Convention Chair Jacques Cuierrier, the Grand Nest wives, and the Honorable Order’s PMLGGs. A marching band named “Les Éclairs de Québec” showed great showmanship as they entered the room playing the theme from Rocky, before presiding over the presentation of the colors and the U.S.
