We understand this resulted in a disjointed reading experience for which we apologise. To correct this error, and provide a lasting accurate record, the article has been retyped and reproduced below.

Committee News and Views The ACTVAC Committee meets monthly and is supported by several Sub-Committees which also meet regularly. Please contact representatives listed in the Vetrunner on page 3 if you would like to raise issues for consideration. Did you know that:  Total renewals/new memberships for 2014 were 444. All applications received after 1 October 2014 will provide membership from the date of receipt through to the end of 2015.  The Marketing & Membership Sub-Committee has prepared a new brochure to inform potential new members about the Club and its activities. The brochure will soon be on the ACTVAC website, and will be distributed to day members at ACTVAC events, at ACT Park Runs, and at other similar athletics events and marketing opportunities.  The President and Secretary represented our Club at the Australian Masters Athletics Annual General Meeting in Melbourne over 20-21 September 2014. Outcomes will be detailed in a future Vetrunner.  Construction of the Woden/Southside Athletics Facilities is progressing but the Club will need to use the AIS facilities for at least the first part of our T&F Season. While there is, as yet, no firm completion date for the Woden Facilities, it is anticipated that they may be available by early 2015.  Work on the new Campbell Throwing Facility appears to have stalled. The Committee is seeking to meet with the ACT Government to obtain more details about this project.  A Sub-Committee chaired by Bob Banens is looking into the options and benefits for ACTVAC to affiliate with Athletics ACT through a Memorandum of Understanding. The Committee is liaising with a number of other State Masters Athletics Clubs which have affiliated with their corresponding State Athletics organisations and will keep Members informed of progress.  An article about options for new Club tracksuits will be included in a future Vetrunner. ACT’s FIRST THROW

HANDICAP

Following the outstanding support that eventuated from the introduction of distance handicaps on the track over the past two seasons,

Trish Connell successfully introduced the handicap concept to the ACT Throwing scene when a standard

Discus and a handicap Shot event were contested on

Saturday, June 23 at the Masson Street oval.

Based on throwers’ best efforts during the 1989- 90 T & F season and designed to produce a 20 metre result, the Shot competition proved an outstanding success with 16 throwers taking part. Excellent handicapping by Trish brought forth a very tight competition and her assessment of her own capability brought forth a one centimetre variant. Only those who had not thrown the implement during the season threw without a handicap, gaining a nett mark alone.
