. . the Big Investment Part 2 This Month’S “Working Lines” Is Going to Take a Closer Look at the Sire Record of the Big Investment
The Working Lines By Larry Thornton . The Big Investment Part 2 This month’s “Working Lines” is going to take a closer look at the sire record of The Big Investment. Last month we saw that The Big Investment brought a new style to the modern pleasure horse. A style that was based on this wonderful conformation. This month we will look at what a bright future this sire had before his untimely death in 1986 at the age of six. Then we will look at one of the reasons why the influence of The Big Investment may continue through his offspring. The Big Investment sired only 129 foals with 93 of them being born in his 1986 and 1987 foal crops. He sired 74 AQHA performers with 66 point earners that have earned 63ROMs and 27 Superior Awards. This gives him an average of 89% point earners/ performers. This gives him 48.8% ROM from foals produced. He has an average of 56 points per performer. Here is an interesting side note on PHOTO BY PAMELA SNOW The Big Investment’s sire record. Cee Bars at the Burnett Ranch
Working Lines Cee Bars at the Burnett Ranch Chicaro Bill was bred by John Dial. a south Texas horseman and racehorse enthusiast. Dial, a key person in this history, was the man who brought the thoroughbred Chicaro from Louisiana to Texas. He eventually sold Chicaro to the King Ranch and this stallion was the first thoroughbred in what became the King Ranch Thoroughbreds. Chicaro is the broodmare sire of King Ranch bred horses like Middleground, a Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, and Top Deck, the progenitor of such noted quarter horses as Go Man Go, Moon Deck and his grandsons, Top Moon and Jet Deck. Cee Bars stands in front of the famous 6666 barn. “He (Cee Bars) handled By Larry Thornton perfectly. Comparison of Head Morphometric Traits Within Five Selected Performance Types of Quarter Horses(Eguus Cabullus) Redacted for Privacy
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Elana Morgana Smith for the degree of Master of Science in Animal Science Presented on October 25, 2002 Title: Comparison of Head Morphometric Traits Within Five Selected Performance Types of Quarter Horses(Eguus cabullus) Redacted for privacy Abstract approved: Thomas F. Savage A study was conducted to investigate if morphometric facial measurements could be utilized to differentiate five categorical performance types of Quarter Horses. The five categories being Western, Halter, English, Reining, and Cutting. The measurements were collected from 323 registered Quarter Horses representing animals who ranged in age from one year to 30 years of age and one of three gender (Stallion, Gelding, and Mare) categories. Eight facial measurements were obtained from two geographic areas, Florida and Oregon. A correlation was performed and resulted in a reduction of the data from eight to five facial measurements, due to the presence of facial symmetry. The reduced data was subsequently analyzed by Multivariate Analysis, using the Wilks Lambda Analysis of Variance. The Main effects, age, gender, and categorical performance type were all significant (p<0.0001 to 0.00 1). Of the two-way interactions only age:gender was not significant (p>0.05) and the three- way interaction age:gender:type was also not significant (p>O.O5) Based upon the not significant (J)>O.O5) Based upon the results, the five original performance categories could be reduced to four (English, Halter, Cutting, and Western/Reining). This indicates that there are a number of similarities in facial measurements between the Western and Reining horses. -

Sunshine Ranch Quality Performance Quarter Horses Pedigree Book John and Candy Balkenbush 545 Pioneer Road South 406-278-3569 Conrad, Montana 59425 [email protected] www.sunshinehorse.com Conrad, Montana is in north-central Montana, just at the base of the Rocky Mountains and sixty miles south of the Canadian border. We have a small ranch operation in the heart of the Golden Triangle, an area known for its small grain production. This is farm country, but there are still enough ranchers in Montana who need good horses for their cattle operations, for pleasure riding, and a horse that can perform in the arena. Our goal is to produce a nice all around ranch, pleasure, and arena horse. We want a horse that looks and acts like the quality horse for which the AQHA was founded. Our horses have good feet, straight legs with adequate bone, plenty of muscle on a balanced frame, and a nice head with a soft eye. We offer a complete horse with plenty of action and a lot of cow - a horse that is easy to train and nice to have in your family operation. We believe mares are the heart of our breeding program. We have 48 mares running with six stallions in the breaks of the Dry Fork of the Marias River. Our mares are all up close or condensed Joe Hancock or Driftwood bloodlines. This combination has produced our ideal ranch, pleasure, and arena horse. We offer our horses for sale in our bi-annual production sales at the Sunshine Ranch arena. -
Americas Horse - the Fastest Way to a Million
Americas Horse - The Fastest Way To A Million A two year old Quarter Horse filly called Fly Baby Fly won almost $1.6 million last year and in so doing became the richest racing filly of all racing breeds. She also put an exclamation point on the rising interest and financial opportunities in quarter horse racing where million dollar purses are becoming the norm. Reputed to be the largest horsebreed registry in the World in terms of members and horses, the American Quarter Horse Association may well be also the youngest being founded in Texas, USA, in the 1940's. The origins of the Quarter Horse combine two distinct horse breeds, the English and North American thoroughbred and the mustangs of the south-western States that evolved from the horses brought to South and Central America by the Spanish Conquistadors. A smallish thoroughbred called Janus (1746) was imported from England to Virginia in the late 1700's. While small in size he was noted for his speed over short distances and his offspring were favourites among the farming community for impromptu racing with their neighbours. As the Wild West became developed and the numbers of Thoroughbreds grew both in terms of imports and local breds the settlers took many of them to the frontiers where they proved themselves as agile and willing ranch horses and indeed war mounts as a defence against raids by indigenous tribes mounted on their "mustangs". Inevitably the two breeds came together and the result was a horse perfectly adapted for local conditions and the needs of the booming cattle ranching business. -

All American Futurity Media Guide
All American Futurity Ruidoso roulette The All American Futurity, in theory, is exactly like any other American Quarter Horse race run at 440 yards. Simply, 10 horses line up in the starting gate facing 440 yards of dirt track, the bell sounds and the horses sprint the quarter mile. However, it is one of the most challenging races offered to any horse of any breed because it is a daunting challenge to qualify to compete in the race. Competition is fierce at the All American trial races (a record 34 in 2015), where as many as 323 horses (2015) show up wanting the same thing, a chance in the final. Names and reputations mean nothing at this point and even if you paid the $50,000 supplement fee to get your horse in the trials, the only thing that will get the horse in the final is clocking one five-fastest times on each of the two trial days. The finalists are based on time, so a horse may not win, but still record a time that enables the horse to compete in the finals. If that gamble isn’t interesting enough, just deal in Mother Nature. Ruidoso Downs is at a 6,900-foot altitude in the Sacramento Mountains and there can be sudden, dramatic weather changes. A few trial races may be run in perfect conditions and other races may run in the rain or variable wind conditions. It is a challenging game to play, but the level of difficulty adds to the race’s prestige and the “my horse is faster than your horse” spirit that is the foundation of the All American Futurity. -
